Waiting out the weather this morning. They put this visiting Oscar deuce in the hanger to keep it dry.

Questions for the experts: the flying bug is biting me again. I was working on my private in college (2001ish) and I have around 60hrs, all solo and cross country time complete but never finished my private because the pilot job outlook was horrendous and I went a different career direction. Question is are those hours still "good" towards a certificate? Obviously I need to get proficient again, but if I could do it in a little less time that would help. The end goal is to just get a private to mess around and fly when it's nice and eventually buy a tail dragger to putz around low and slow in.

Yes. As long as you still have your logbook all of that time and training counts towards the requirements to get your private.

"Doc", a B-29 Superfortress, over Manhattan, KS. If I had $600 lying around I'd buy a 30-minute ride.

Are you in ops? One of the most fun jobs I ever had was at KLGB doing ops after doing my undergrad in aviation administration. How great is the evening light inspection?

Yes I’m in ops, coming up on 3 years now. It’s an awesome job that has given me a lot of crazy stories. I enjoy doing inspections, any chance I get to be on the airfield I take!

My dream job/job I want when I'm close to retiring is operations or manager at a small non air carrier airport. Did that at two airports in college and had a blast. I work for a major now and we are royal pains in the asses, I would not want to deal with me on the other side LOL. I had always been fascinated by airport operations and ground ops, people focus on the flying but a lot of the fun stuff is happening in the airport enviornment.

Most people are fascinated by aircraft and their comings and going. Rightly so. My father was a pilot for a major US carrier and military pilot. My mother was a military flight nurse. Aviation is in my blood. Hardly anyone realizes how amazing airports are in their own right. Large airports have complexities akin to the major cities where they are located.

I thoroughly enjoyed my undergraduate program at CSULA.

I met a gentleman once out at the Trona (same as the recent major earthquake) airport who was the sole operations individual. More like a caretaker due to the low traffic at L72 . When I pulled up he had an open carry sidearm. He was a gyro pilot and former Marine. Really cool guy. That would be a great retirement job.
