Cargo thingy....

Not sure what you'd call it. I'm planning to have a cover on my bed (MX4). When I go shopping (grocery, HD, etc.) I'd like to be able to stick stuff at the end of the bed (not near the cab). I'd like to just drop the gate and put my stuff there without it rolling all over the place. All of the cargo ....thingys I've seen are close to the bed. Any recommendations? Does this make sense?

 

I use old milk crates with the oem bed mat and they don’t move. I have a load bar if the groceries get too unruly.

 

There are a few options.

1. A cargo net

2. The bed extender flipped.

3. Rubber bed mat.

There are OEM and non-OEM options for all of the above.

 

A bed mat helps with things sliding around in the bed for sure. I've also got a soft cargo net (pretty inexpensive on Amazon) that I can attach to my bed cleats towards the back of my truck bed that keeps items from rolling around.



There are other hard options out there worth exploring like collapsible plastic containers from Costco that you can attach rubber feet to or with the cargo mat will not move around unless you are doing some serious cornering or off road but they can still be tied down if you plan on doing so.

 

Cargo net is what you're after, though for groceries and whatnot I would go with either a SUV trunk organizer or the mountainsmith modular hauler:

I've seen some of these types that even have a cooler compartment--pretty useful

This is my solution, 2 toyota cargo nets off craigslist and a free cargo mat from an F150 cut to size. The cargo nets work off the factory cleats and are movable for versatility.

 

You have a couple of options. Slide a 2x6 in there for the cheapest route.

Get the factory divider.

Nets are okay, but I've found them to be not strong enough for much more than waffles.

Get the bed divider toyota sells

 

I'm not sure if a bed divider will work with a MX4 tonneau. I'm assuming the bed divider uses the stock bed rail height, when installing an mx4 the height lowers a couple of inches.

 

If you had a Toyota bed mat you would not have made this thread.

I just bought a Fold a Cover Tonneau which allows access to the area right behind the cab without folding the whole thing up. I planned on building a bent and welded aluminum tray to mount in that area to hold my tow rope, jumpers, first aide box, etc. Now it looks like I'll get one of these instead, it seems like a better idea. Bummer... I was really looking forward to the sheet metal project too. Now, if I could only get it embroidered with TRD... J/K

 

Rtic 65 or yeti cooler & Toyota bedmat. I put the cold stuff in the cooler & the other stuff doesn’t move, whether from Costco/sams etc or grocery store. Another option is 4 milk crates fit perfectly

 

I use a 27" (17 gl) storage box from home depot. Fits well between the wheel well and the tail gate and slides out easily but doesn't move around in the bed. Holds 2-3 bags of groceries that I carry into the house in one trip and return the bin when empty. Less than $12.

Without a doubt, these are the smallest, easiest, and cheapest to buy.
