Was out doing some trail driving and camping over the weekend. Came up on a rock hill climb after a shallow creek crossing. I made it maybe 75ft and lost traction. Backed up a little and tried to pass the same spot with no luck. Was in 4lo locked and total drive time was maybe 30 seconds including the back up and retry. Was not spinning tires much or revving past 2-2.5k. "Engie oil low" and "transmission temp high" came on and engine shut down. Seeing the people that blew motors, I backed down without power as I wasn't far and once on flat ground it started up normally without issue. No smoking or knock. Ran the rest of the day without issue. The hill was steep, but I'm not sure it was 30 deg. I didn't expect to ever see issues on hills, but apparently it is real.

Probably better off running the engine oil a half to 1 quart over in your case

There are a few posts and vidoes about these trucks having similar issues on hill climbs accompanied by white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

That’s bad advice on this engine leads to foaming of the engine oil and the oil pump was never designed to pump foam.

Have heard that on steep hills, gravity forces the oil all the way to the back and cause certain lights to turn on. Never experienced this though.

Yeah. Seeing those is what made me stop and back down the hill without power instead of trying to get into it and try again. I had that in the back of my mind when I started up the hill so I was a bit more gentle that usual.

This was my first time seeing it. I was on several other climbs without issue before and after that. It was probably the steepest, but not by much.

has to do with the fact that the design of the new motor cant drain the oil quick enough from the back of the heads down to the pan when tilted back.

EDIT. one could relatively easily make an extra big drain from the back side of the head to the oil pan to alleviate this issue.

Had the same thing happen to me on 4L. And 4H, I spinned tires rpm was at around 4k and kicking up major dust cause I'm a crazy mofo trying to kill that climb (I made it btw after 3rd attempt.) incline was for sure at around 30° or more ‍idk. Low engine oil warning and high transmission oil warning, engine shuts off. I rolled down no power on N and let her cool down A few mins and restarted. It took a extra 3 seconds for her to start again but after that she was normal. I was also at idle on a steep decline with no prob after that.

And Yes I know this is a old post. Just contributing for the people that may need a update on a current model doing the same shit.

From my experience, it can happen on the up and the down if steep enough. I was sitting on a very steep downhill for a little bit waiting for the cars in front of me to continue. After a little bit the engine oil warning came on. This has happened going up as well. Nothing broke for me, this has happened maybe 6-10 times since 2018 when I purchased the vehicle. On the steep incline, I did see white smoke but not the decline. Hope this helps

^as stated above, i know this thread is old but i experienced this for the first time today. had the truck on a 30 degree or so decline for a couple minutes and got the engine oil low warning. First time really taking it off road and exploring and of course immediately thought i punctured the oil pan. Warning went away almost instantly once i hit level ground again and i figured it just wasn’t on the sensor. No issues since then but glad to see it’s a common thing y’all have seen. maybe this will help someone else some day lol
