Finding local inventory?

The dealer just called to tell me they can't get the OR that they were going to bring in from another dealer. I'd like to look at all the inventory in my area (within 50 miles) to see what's out there. However, the Toyota site doesn't offer this ability. Anyone know a way to do this?

I don't know of any cross-dealership tools, but nearly every dealership in my area puts their inventory online, so it shouldn't be too hard to search each dealer independently... There can't be THAT many...

 

Yea, that's what I'm about to do. There are about 20 within 25 miles.

 

i wish Toyota would let you search their entire inventory like Dodge. Dodge has the best website ever for inventory search. They show actual cars at actual dealers. The Toyota one is fake and stupid.

I used cars.com and filtered my search. Most dealers automatically upload to Cars or similar sites when a vehicle is added to their inventory in my area.

 

This sounds about right, there were 7 within a 100 mile search of me when I got mine.

Finding local inventory can be very difficult.

I first contacted Toyota directly, and they told me they don't know what individual dealers have on hand, because they sometimes swap vehicles.

I found the dealer websites inaccurate because they're slow to update them, among other reasons. I had one specific truck I was interested in looking at and the evening before I drove to see the truck, I *confirmed* with my salesman that he did, in fact, still have the vehicle. The next morning when I arrived, he greeted me and said, "Oh man, I didn't know it but we sold that truck you were interested in last night...".

I also contacted another dealer who had a truck on the lot that was purposely not listed on their website. I know this to be true because the salesman sent my photos from his phone, odometer reading, etc.

It's frustrating and challenging.

I've had luck with cargurus.com when shopping for my wife's Pilot. Able to see inventory in other states too.

Set your filters, including search distance.
It’s my go to when looking.

 

Google maps to find the dealers and go to each of their websites. Found my truck that way when I wasn't listed in other sites.

 

I've used Cargurus.com several times.

Carguru/Edmunds/KBB/Autotrader will all give varying results from each search. Dealer should have access to a dealer only data base. I got a quote that read source was web adds--dealer.com Dealers are slow (I believe on purpose) to update their sites.

The dealer who said he couldn't get the truck from the other dealer says he's still working on it now. Wonder if the other dealer doesn't want to give it up.
