    What’s up guys?

After a couple of years of hard work, I recently purchased a 2019 double cab 2wd Tacoma. The main reason for purchasing was the scope of mods possible for the truck and I’m looking for some recommendations on beginning mods that will be simple to complete on my own. It’s my goal to learn the truck inside out. This is my first time owning a vehicle and I have no mechanical experience but I’m capable and look forward to the learning process. I’ve been doing some research and have a good idea of the first mods I’d like to get installed, I’m going for a somewhat off-road look but it will be a daily driver. Here are the early mods I’d like to get working on.

    Nerf Bars
    Subwoofer setup behind backseat
    LED headlights

For nerf bars, I know the predators stand out but are there any other options that have an off-road coated step look?

Subwoofer set up ideas including necessary box/shallow sub ideas.

LED headlights and maybe some LED mods to the nerf bars.

Any info/tips/ideas will be much appreciated. I’m excited to be here!

EDIT: If anyone has any used mods that they would be willing to sell I am open to any ideas. I’m not against buying used products to save some cash.

    Mostly old man mods
The mods you can do are overwhelming to say the least.
I'm not a fan of step bars myself, but a a good nerf or slider will, at minimum, keep the door dings away. I'll probably build my own set so they sit exactly as I want. I did a lot of fab projects on my last truck, and it's nice to have something of your own design. One thing that seems to be popular is replacing the fog lights with Baja Designs, KCs, Morimoto, et al. I saw a post where someone used the LED ones from a Tundra and they worked well for a lot less. I might go that route myself.

What do you plan on using the truck for; off road, cruiser, camping, just a DD?

That is exactly why I came here. The mods are more than overwhelming and I feel like I don’t want to dive in without the correct knowledge. That is the beauty of forums like this to bring all of the ideas together and its awesome.

Currently it is only going to be used as a DD, I live in South Florida so the off-roading is limited here. I just love the look of the off-road Taco.

Appreciate the recommendation! I did not mention that it came with a bed-liner from the dealership. I’ll definitely check out the console tray. Any other cool small mods you prefer?

    Welcome.
    Congrats on the ride.

    Start slow.

    #1 on you list?
    A OEM Bed Mat.
Yes you have a composite bed and stuff slides like it’s on ice without it.
It saves the composite bed. Don’t try standing in the bed if it’s wet without one. You’ll fall on your ass! Seen my wife fall while she was washing my roof! Laughed my ass off!
Then I ordered a bed mat online.

OEM Bed mat will be great. Thank you for the suggestion. I was also recommended a spray bed liner, any experience with them?

They won't stick well and most places won't do it.

Welcome to the forum dude

Copied my post from someone else who asked about first mods before, hope it helps!

My .02, but start small and get used to the vehicle before large changes. For example, adding a bed mat is highly useful and affordable, whereas a quality, full suspension/lift will be in the thousands, and you may not like the results.

Here are some utility-based suggestions to get you started that are all reasonably affordable:

    - Bed mat (as stated) is one of the most useful items to have if you ever intend on putting things in the bed; keeps things from sliding around.

    - Glove box organizer:

    https://www.amazon.com/Vehicle-OCD-Toyota-Organizer-2016-2019/dp/B07BH49SHC

    - Center console organizer:

    - All weather mats (as stated) - take your pick of OEM, Weathertech, Husky, etc.

    - Window tint (should you want it) - matching the front driver/passenger windows to the rear factory privacy glass with standard tint should run under $90.

    - Swapping your long-life, low output low beam bulbs; here is a great research thread covering most, if not all, options: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ector-headlights.589465/page-67#post-21071090. One note here - please do not buy into the anecdotal/emotional appeals for drop-in LED bulbs; halogen projectors/reflectors are not designed for LED light sources.

    - Adding basic vehicle gear, such as a med kit, fire extinguisher, road flares, tire iron, tire plug kit, etc.
From there, the possibilities are nearly endless with our Tacomas. Have fun OP

PS - in my opinion, the best "mod" is having the note 100% in your name.

I appreciate the detailed response (even if it was for someone else with the same question). Appreciate you going out of your way to get that post!

For the headlight replacement, I may send you a private message for more info if you don’t mind. I’m going to check out that post and see what I can come up with.

    Thank you again!

No problem! That thread and its OP have tons of insight to offer. Also, I believe that link I had used was to a specific comment - clicking on it in the sticky thread sections, or using this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/ will start you at the beginning.

Edit: fun fact, that thread has become mandatory reading for some lighting companies' sales teams, due to the testing methods and information.
