Since no one has stepped up yet about this and there doesn't sound like there's any opposition to shooting a few rounds of trap, I suppose that sounds like a plan to me, and kinda gives us a month off. So, lets see, officially, how much interest there is in shooting some Trap. Even if you dont want to shoot, feel free to come out just to hang out and grab a bite after.

Date: Sept 25 (last Saturday of the month). Weather pending, as they usually aren't open on bad weather days.

    Location:
    Lee Kay Center
6000 West 2100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84128
    801-972-1326 (801-972-2252)
    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.72....730739,-112.031708&spn=0.026602,0.05373&z=14

Meet at the Trap side/snack bar building. When entering, stick to the left side of the road, behind the first building.

Time: 11:00 to ??? (They close at 5:00 on Saturday), but it shouldn't take us long to get through everyone. I'm planning to grab a bite to eat after done shooting, so all are welcome to join as well.

What to Bring (if you want to shoot):
*Shotgun (if you have one. If not, no big deal)
*Money (used to be $6 per 25 clays (1 round). Not unusual to shoot 2 rounds, even for first timers. Not positive on current price.)
*Eye and Ear protection (can be bought there for relatively cheap. If you bring your own, you really dont need anything fantastic since it is outside.)
*Shotgun shells. Bird shot #7.5 to #8. Can be picked up at Walmart for ~$25 per 100 shells. Make sure to get the right caliber; 12 gauge if you dont have a shotgun. I have a few extra boxes I can bring out, but if you want to shoot, plan on bringing ammo.
*Water (or something to drink) if you want, as we will be standing in the sun.

    Who can come:
Trap and shotguns are quite beginner friendly, so anyone is welcome, even if they have never shot/handled a gun before. Just as long as they have the ability to handle a firearm safely.

    ========================

    I'm bringing 3 shotguns (All in 12gauge).
    1. Beretta Extrema 2. Very low recoil. Anyone should be able to shoot it just fine.
    2. Mossberg 500. More in a tactical configuration. Pump action. A bit more difficult to shoot than the Extrema.
    3. Browning Citori XT. My personal gun and probably wont fit anyone, but welcome to try it out.

    Quick intro to trap:
There are 5 stations, one shooter at each station. Each station is shot from 5 times. Person starting at station 1 checks to be sure everyone is ready and calls "pull" for their clay and shoots it. Person 2 calls pull and shoots their clay, etc until each person has shot 5 times. Everyone rotates to the next station. The first person, now in station 2, checks if everyone is ready, then calls for their clay, etc. Repeat until everyone has shot 5 rounds at each of the 5 stations.

For anyone thats afraid of the potential recoil, I have some shoulder problems due to an injury in high school and can still shoot a few rounds just fine. The shells are really very low recoil. The shotgun does rest in a place that is not used much, so there is a chance of some minor bruising and soreness the next day, specially if it isn't held in tight. I'll do my best to make sure that wont happen, but you have to let me know its your first time with a shotgun.

On a personal note, it's been about a year since I've last gone shooting Trap, so I'm far from expecting anything great from myself. I wont be keeping score, but if others want to, I'll bring along a few score sheets. I've always just shot Trap with friends for fun and treat it like I would at a golf driving range (dont talk while someone is shooting, but between shots is fine). Because of this, we'd just take turns manually pressing the pull button instead of the available voice activation pulls.

Sounds like fun, count me in. Last time I shot at Lee Kay I think it was $5 for 25 skeet. Ill be shooting a Benneli Super Black Eagle II, and will gladly let anyone shoot it that wants to.

To anybody on the fence about coming and have never shot skeet it's a ton of fun and anybody can do it.

Pick up some 12 Gauge shells (Bird shot #7.5 to #8) and you can take your pick of shotguns to shoot. (should only be from $5 - $7 for a box of 25) [IMG]

Kinda a shame theres not more interest in this, but thats ok. I had the impression that we had more shooters than this out here.

Really though, if you're on the fence because you've never shot a shotgun (or any firearm) before, this really is one of the more mild ways to start. Believe it or not, but it really is satisfying when you completely powder one of the clays.

I have a wedding to shoot that day, but I should be able to make it. I don't shoot shotgun (I'm a distance marksman myself), but it'll be fun to hang out and watch anyway.

Great. Got you down on the list.

Air shows are always a bit fun as well though. There's always next time, or even just any time you're in the valley.
