And that's the way it should be. Most manufacturers will let you option out lower models close to the price to its premium model. Its absolutely supposed to make you think about going up to a pro.

The Pro's and the fully loaded OR's always appear fairly close on paper, but where it creates a wider gap is in the infamous "market adjustment" dealers do on Pros in my area the starting number for them is usually 51-55k. Also, in the past dealers were more inclined to negotiate on OR due to more stock.

It's also interesting the talk of the MT being cheaper than the Autos because when I was looking to purchase either a Pro or OR the manual often had a higher starting price (to go along with less features) due to only having a handful on the lot if any. The dealers know that the MT is a niche product with a small client base, but loyal following never the less. At a 5% take rate that would but the rough math at 245,000 (2018) X .05 = 12,250 Total. This is assuming 5% across the board not even taking out SR5, Limited, 2WD, or LB trims produced that don't have the manual option so the numbers are possibly even lower. For Pros if there are 5,000 produced that would assume that a mere 250 come in manual (+/- 63 of each of the 4 colors).

There was a decent bump in price between the OR with Prem+Tech and a full on Pro before, but they have cut the differential significantly now the way it is looking.

    edit: At least at MSRP.

Agreed. You're looking at a $2500-$4000 walk in MSRPs from an OR to a PRO now depending how you spec it, but from there you'll get more discount on the OR than the PRO. And if you're leasing, the OR (at least on MY19 this month) carries a 5% BETTER residual and lower money factor than the PRO so if that holds for MY20, you've got 4 factors that are going to bump your payment significantly.

-me trying to fend off thoughts of bumping myself to a PRO lol

I went to my dealer today to look at a 19 Pro in VB. They are still holding onto the illusion that ADM is a thing an wouldn't discount the truck at all.

Had 3k of bullshit on it. Made in March.

Not sure where you are, but look at Right Toyota in Scottsdale, AZ. They've got 7 MY19 PROs, including 2 voodoos, all discounted. Might be worth traveling for if you're on the west coast.

I can't speak for the 2020's, which I assume you're asking about. But when I bought my 2019, I was told that just the tech package was not an option unless you got the premium as well--could be regionally based I guess

Or wonder if it is just dealer's BS trying to get you to buy what they have or can easily get.

I just checked the premium (non moonroof) package on my 'build' sheet. It does NOT say JBL as I thought, but rather 'Premium Audio'. What does this mean?

From the MY19 brochure, you're getting the top one that's standard on off roads and sports, not the bottom one that's included on the automatic trans premium pack on those trims. Head unit is changing but I believe the sound systems are carryover. Not sure if the speakers themselves are actually different in the JBL system, but we're sacrificing the sub by going with the manual as has been the case in years past.

So is the 'premium' audio just premium because of the app suite? In other words, are there only two levels of speakers on these trucks: base 6 speaker stereo and JBL stereo? I have a feeling if I ask my dealer then smoke will start pouring out of their ears. This is the kind of stuff I rely on the forum to provide me, because normally, I know 10x what they do about what I'm going to buy.

I just want to verify that the Premium Package EE for $2,295 on an TRD OR AT includes JBL. Not interested in the Moonroof or Leather seats, but I like the JBL system.

Again from the MY19 brochure. They distinguish more systems based on the different head units. All double cabs have 6 speakers. So far as I can tell, if you're on a manual double cab off road like I am, we don't have an option on the sound system regardless of premium pack or otherwise. I think it's the same sound system regardless of if you spec any level premium pack or none. You're for sure losing the sub and maybe the quality of the component speakers.

For the Canadians on this thread, I Dropped by my Toronto area dealer today.

They didn’t have the pricing and options for 2020 Tacoma yet, just a list of changes vs the 2019 model year. All of which have been mentioned in this thread.

Manager said they have 2020 4Runner and Tundra pricing but nothing for Tacoma yet, he assumed it would be soon, in next couple weeks. His assumption is the trim levels and options packages will carryover from 2019 with the new features incorporated.

Also mentioned he’s gonna attend a new model reveal in Arizona late Sept where dealers get a sneak peak at what’s coming. Likely his first chance to see the next Tundra. He mentioned next Tundra will possibly have a twin turbo hybrid V6 as one of the engines.

Yeah I believe this is because you have an AT. As stated before somewhere, the MT does not come with JBL for some odd reason.

You're only paying the difference between the standard headlights and the new LED model.
