BUYER BEWARE: New 3rd Gen Tacoma Tailgate Opener

I thought the same thing, that I was using it as just a novelty. But it has been particularly helpful. And the wow factor to other people has been worth it for me. Kind of enjoy showing off taco tricks

 

I’d need the snugtop to open the same way in order to be able to use the tailgate opener. Doesn’t look like they make an after market snugtop opener.

 

So my package came in yesterday.
USPS took "good" care of it...
Have not had time to install them yet.

Complete lock/open kit, Tailgate switch, and @DSIM's module, only thing missing is the B-Harness.

All my other installs (LE Turn Signals, Power Mirrors, Pop Lock, Remote Start, Catback) were under the full moon.

USPS must have something against me, or my family.
I had an Amazon box basically fully ripped open, and all the contents was held together with duct tape...

Could be all the recent many large heavy packages we have been getting though.
All the Meso drops, power mirrors, master impact socket set, torque wrench, etc.
Plus my brother drives an STI, so he had an exhaust, etc. ship in the same week.

She has to bring up large items up to the second floor office, and usually the stairs is the only way to bring them up.

I’ve had some questions lately on how to install this on the Rod and that it is simply too big.





If you take a look at this picture here



You will see how it is not flat. You need to make it flat by using some Needle Nose Pliers or whatever you want to use that will do the trick. If you don’t get it 100% flat that is fine. You really only need it to a point where it will grab onto your Rod and be snug. When you get it to that point, make sure you are ready to not take it off because it will be on there. Trust me!!!! That little thing grips on there and it stays.

Does this kit "force" the tailgate open, or just pulls the handle mechanism? Wondering if it'll force the camper shell open if the camper is left on.

super quick shipping. i did the install today and it was very simple. ran into no issues at all. took about 45 minutes, mostly because on the grommet for the cab i decided to take apart the oem wire loom (basically un-did the electrical tape, then ran the wire loom through with the oem wiring, re attached wireloom and taped back with electrical tape) so i can have a even cleaner install and not poke a hole into the grommet. i could have done the same for the tailgate loom but it didnt look so bad the way i did it, maybe in the future. i took some photos for reference:
