Here's my plan. Either you're the first to leave. Or be the last one to leave. Dont get stuck in the middle.

I plan to just go and take over someone's house in Katy that decided they had to evacuate from there.

You think EVs are a fad? Will they really replace fossil fuel vehicles??

I think they are the future, but distant future. With the regulations getting more and more difficult it's pushing the automotive industry to it. A lot of it is political and I don't see that changing. From what I've read the limiting factor right now is battery technology and automakers and tech giants are spending billions right now on R&D. Toyota already has patented solid state batteries. IMO they wont be viable until they can provide comparable service that non EV's provide, mainly the range to refueling / recharging ratio.

I disagree with your last sentence. I think the upcoming of EVs will drive MORE recharge stations and quick recharge spots, sooner rather than later. I bet people are already filing business licenses to add more of these places.

Also imagine a world where you can recharge as you drive with patches of road that work as contact charging pads or go old school with electric lines int he air and feelers for them like the old school trolley systems. How slick would that be? I mean by the time we get there though, nobody will actually be driving a vehicle and we will all be fat, sitting in mobile chairs with eyes glued to screens, and have no bone density (aka the people from Wall-E). So idk if it will matter much anyway.

Don’t forget that at some point electricity will probably cost as much as gas does. We all know how this circle goes and what’s free now won’t be free for long. The higher ups have money in their vision somewhere along this road and once we all go electric with solar chargers or home charges or whatever... I’m sure the cost to charge the car will rise significantly. Especially considering the state of Texas doesn’t even have enough power on the grid to reliably keep everyone’s lights on right now.

The main problem with EV is us lower/middle class people who live in the country. Most don’t even have a garage so where will we charge the car while at home ?

Most cars range is only like 200 miles while that’s far for a lot, I drive 80-100 a day. So I’ll have to be charging my car a lot which will get annoying.

Also , are the batteries like phones? In the extreme heat and cold are they gonna drain faster?

I’m 100% for the future and know EV is coming but I don’t see it happening overnight like some think. Hell, Tesla is still struggling just to stay above water.

I like these discussions because I would love an electric vehicle but they are just not “there” yet for us in the middle of nowhere.

An all electric crawler would be so badass. 100% torque at any movement of the pedal and super quiet too and it would have a decent center of gravity because the weight of the batteries. But they just have lots of kinks to work out first.

Tesla is it's own discussion. I'll just say I would never invest in them.

Li-Ion batteries are li-ion batteries. So all the issues surrounding those come with it. Hot, cold, charge cycles, degradation over time......

Currently there is not a $$$ case for EVs as the increased purchase cost cannot justify the fuel/amp savings. Not now anyway, maybe if we get to $5-6 a gallon. But right now an EV is a mental/feel good buy, not a financial one.

They wont be "there" yet for awhile I dont think. Also tbh electric vehicles arent all that green. Yes, emissions are great when compared to internal combustion. but, there is still how to recycle the batteries or dispose of them. We need a better way to capture the battery waste and use it in a new way, or at least dispose of it responsibly.

Then charging stations will start off as tax write offs for big companies to switch to EV but eventually, that company is gonna realize that charging 200 cars a day adds up quick. Same with maintenance on the charging stations.

Some think in 10 years all the cars will be electric but they don’t think about the lower class who get lucky to make $30k/yr

You can’t just force people to get rid of their shitbox gassers that barely run and make them go buy a new EV. I don’t think any of us know exactly how long it’ll be till we are mostly EV but by the time we get close, there will probably be some new hot go green fuel
