Can't get a straight answer from the salesman

Hi everyone- I'm looking for my 3rd Tacoma, this time brand new. I want a few specific things on it, but the salesman just keeps trying to sell me what he already has in stock (which is understandable but annoying). I saw an old thread here where it sounded like you could maybe get your dealership to order some specific items from the factory.
I want an access cab, manual transmission, 6 cylinder, 4wd. The biggest thing I want to do is get rid of the carpet and have all weather flooring, and add leather seats. My other two wish list items are a sunroof (the guy did say that there isn't enough room in the access cab for this) and an electric rear window.
    So my questions are:
    1. Can you order stuff from the factory? I live in southwestern Colorado- not sure if the region matters.
    2. Is there a kit you can order to swap the carpet for all weather flooring, and can a decent auto body shop do it?
    3. I know a lot of people will think I'm crazy for this one- Can I get an after market sunroof in an access cab? If yes does anyone in the Denver of Albuquerque have experience with this?
    Thanks for your help!

I don't think 3rd gens ever offered all weather flooring. Not sure if power rear window comes with access cabs, but that would be a standard feature not an option.
    1. Leather is not available in the access cab from Toyota. I would recommend Katzkin.
    2. not sure
    3. aftermarket sunroofs are available but have heard horror stories with them leaking over time.

You can get a dealer to get a truck built from the factory in the way that Toyota will build one. That’s the key. If Toyota doesn’t package the sunroof with leather, they can’t order it. You may find a dealer willing to order in parts and swap them on the lot, but most won’t because it’s not worth it to them. I went through this with an Audi about 20 years ago. Had to be exactly the right set of options and I had to buy one from half way across the country to get it.

    All that said,

You should be able to find all weather flooring I would think, and leather covers, but I wouldn’t hold out hope for an aftermarket sunroof that’s worth the cost and effort.

go to Toyota dot com and mess around with the build your own. Mess around by changing zip codes to see what each region can get.

I would not get a sunroof, even if its factory installed. 1-there will be problems later, 2 lose head room.
I believe the Access cab with manual transmission is only available in V6.

Why in God's name would you want leather upholstery in a truck you apparently want to get muddy inside (rubber floor cover); for that matter, why would you want leather at all? It stains, it's cold, or too hot, it cracks and once it does is practically unrepairable without re-doing the whole seat. Good quality vinyl wears just as well. I've had a truck with leather, so I know what I'm talking about. I'd never do it again.

As for an "aftermarket" sunroof, I'm sure someone would be glad to cut a hole in the roof of your truck for you. I'm pretty sure whatever type of sunroof you could get for an access cab would be a simple popup and not one that slides.

By "electric rear window", do you mean one like the new Tundra's have, the whole window raises and lowers? I like my center slider just fine.

I do agree about the rubber floor, though. I've often wondered what the real appeal is of a carpeted floor in a truck .

the new 3rd gen tacos have a powered slider on the Double Cabs. I just reached back and opened mine when I had my Access Cab.

Also, on the seat, just get a good seat of seat covers, easier to clean.

I guess I don't care if the seats are leather or vinyl- Just easy to clean. As for the electric rear window, it's a minor thing, but I always forget to close it until I'm driving and can hear the wind etc. It would be nice to just hit a button and have it close. A friend of mine had an old taco with this feature- It looked like a regular little window that you just slide open but it was electric

I don't believe access cads are powered but double cabs are. You could search on here to see if someone has successfully added it to an AC.

The factory leather in the 3rd gen is man made (Vinyl), so I don't think those problems will persist.

    So, then, it isn't leather.

correct, but you can't say that to the marketing team. I believe it's actually called vegan leather and is a big hit in California

Even with the power rear slider, I still forget to close it frequently

The trucks come in a base option, then a series of upgrade packages ie sr5, trd, off road etc. but they will not build a custom truck specific to want you want by mixing items or removing items from a said upgrades. It’s completely cost prohibitive to them.

But if you can get the dealership to use one if there allocations, they can get a truck with certain options, if available to that region.
I was able to get my Sport, exactly how I wanted it. The dealership used one of its allocations and 3 months later, I climbed in with 1 mile on the clock.
