The whole reason for not having a playoff is they can't figure out a way to make more money than they are making now. SEC is the highest grossing conference in football = most hyped. The Big East has more teams then any other in basketball which brings in the most money= most hyped. just saying.

The Boise TCU matchup was a big heartbreaker to me . I wanted to see them against BCS schools.

    Yeah.

I go back and forth on the playoff idea. I have no idea how it'd work with the current bowl system, but that's for smarter people than me to figure out. I do like that college football is the only season where EVERY game matters. That would go away with a playoff. Have 2 or 3 losses? Meh, it's ok. Win your conference and you have a shot.

Hell... La. State won the BCS w/ 2 losses a few years ago.

I dunno. There's no perfect fix. Maybe just a plus one system could work. Once you get outside the top 4 teams each year there's less of an argument that #5, 6, etc. belongs in the NC game.

"I'll be really pissed if they get in over a 1-loss SEC Champion. Alabama, for example, has to play @LSU, Auburn, Florida, Penn State, then (assuming we didn't drop one of those), we have to win the SECC (against Florida again, probably)."

I still don't understand why this gets thrown around all the time by the SEC guys...........like each team is a powerhouse (LSU is down, Penn State has been down for years, and Florida looked crappy so they are probably on there way down). I will agree that there is exciting football in the SEC but there is usually only one real powerhouse and it shifts every couple of years. But then again that happens in every conference! Remember when USC was dominating, what about OU, Texas, etc.......

Anybody in College Football can win any give Saturday!

By the way, I would love to see Boise State vs Alabama in the big dance......but if Bama doesn't make it.........well we all know the excuse......the SEC has better teams. The truth is, it's hard to go undefeated in a season regardless if you are from a supposed power conference to a WAC/MW.

Last night's game was awesome. And to be honest, I knew Boise State would pull it off. Give these guys credit. They are good and have been good for a couple of years now. (VT also had all summer to prepare for this game! You would think they should have run laps over Boise State because they have better players right and because.......lets hear it.........they are in a better conference and play better teams.......I say Bull$hit.)

Anyways there is my rant! :D

And by the way Texas didn't look that great either........but they're still my team and I'll back them up.

Boise State has been my team for a couple years now ever since they let OU have it in the Fiesta Bowl. We all remember that one 43 to 42.

I agree with mws4ua. Alabama plays 5 teams in the preseason top 25 (I know it's not the best poll but all we have at this point) vs. Florida #4, @ Arkansas #17, vs. Penn State #19, @ LSU #21, vs. Auburn #22. They also play 2 more teams that are receiving votes for the Top 25 in S. Carolina (@SC) and vs. Mississippi. They could potentially face another top 25 team in the SEC champ. game.

Boise State plays 2 teams in the top 25 @ VT #10, and vs. Oregon State #24. They don't play anyone receiving votes in the Top 25.

You can't possibly be saying that if Alabama looses one game this year (assuming it's not the SEC championship game) against one of the top 25 teams they don't deserve to be in the NC game. But If Alabama slips up and looses to a team they have no business losing too, then we have a discussion on our hands. But unless that happens there's no doubt Alabama should be in the NC game. And yes I know the BCS is all about $ signs, but Bama would bring PLENTY of jack to the table in any BCS game.

It looks like the only teams to give Boise a scare are Oregon State on 9/25 at home and a game against Utah State on 12/4 at home as well. But the jury is still out on Utah State, and we should have a good feel for them on 10/1 when they host BYU.

It's still early in the season and we will see how things play out. It's almost to the point where Boise has to play all top 25 teams in the non-con to get any real consideration for a NC game. But I have a feeling that if BSU and Bama played, BSU would get slaughtered.

How'd your team do against the SEC last year? Sorry you're tired of hearing SEC guys talk, but we're proud of our conference. We played one of the teams from BSU's conf. this week. Played a lot of 2nd and 3rd string guys. Won the game 48-3.

I hope BSU makes it to the game and plays us. It's way to far out to predict that, but I hope it happens.

Boise State would have been on the cover, I'm sure, but they played too late in the weekend. Oh well...

Doesn't really matter, my whole point is that this is a moving target. Give it a few years and Bama will be an after thought after Saban accepts the richiest contract in College Football history and goes somewhere else.

But indugle in it for now......Bama has a chance to make it (just like all the other BCS schools......and Boise if they go undefeated and yes I know.....they play cream puffs.)

As far as my team goes........I was not really impressed with the opening drive on the Defense. And this new running offense! WTF, they got the Beef and Beans special running the ball.

And not sure if you picked it up during the pregame and after the game but Mark May of ESPN has already anointed Garret Gilbert as a Heisman Trophy winner........he compared him to Dan Marino. It was funny Lou Holtz was laughing and in shock!

I think the kid is good and if it (wait for it..........) wasn't for turnovers yes (I do believe) Texas would have won that game! But they didn't and I have to live with it and move on.

I do hope Mark May is correct but it's a long season and he's got a ways to go.

    Again my rant. :D

Mark May could be the dumbest football analyst at ESPN (and that's saying something). Not because he picked a UT QB as the Heisman winner already (he'll change that pick weekly if not daily), he was mentally handicapped way before that point. It'll be interesting to see who's knob he slob's now that his butt buddy Pete Carroll is longggggg gone.

A buddy of mine was telling me about a statement Mark May said during the BSU VT halftime report last night. I guess they were talking about the past weeks game and how Mark May was making protien deposits in his pants on how wonderful Miami looked while getting 8 sacks last weekend and how he was crapping his pants for the Miami/tOSU game next week.

Then Lou Holtz starts talking about how he's gonna have an extra pair of depends for the FSU/OU game because it was shaping up to be a doosy and that while OU struggled in week one FSU looked very good. Mark MAy freaks out and interrupts Holtz in mid-sentence and says, "THEY WERE PLAYING SAMFORD!!"

Hey May, you douchebag ... Miami was playing Florida A&M!!!!!!

I know as well as anybody that no team stays on top for long. Bama was riding high just before my freshman year... while I was there, I think we were 1 game over .500, and that was only b/c of a freak, 10-win season Francione had before bolting to A&M. (I actually cheered for Texas for a year or two after that.)

I'm not trying to say "bama's the best, and everybody else can suck it" or anything. I'm just anti BSU getting all the damn hype they get. Beat just one team, and they can walk right through.

Also... call me a homer, but I don't think Saban has anywhere else to go. He moved from school to school until he made it to a big time program, where he won a national title. Then the NFL looked awfully tempting, so he tried it there and failed. He can't have the control in the NFL that he can have as a college coach. He moved back into big-time college football... so where else is he going to go?

Except for the turnovers.... except for the points we scored, or the stops we made, or the mistakes you made, or a million other things. Except for being outscored by Florida two years ago, we'd be two-time defending SEC champs right now. No point in even saying it.

At least you're the first Texas fan not pissing and moaning about losing Colt and how Texas would have won he'd stayed in the game.

BSU played a great game. Tyrod Taylor played a hell of a game. End of the day, I hate it that BSU won, because of the shot they have at the NC at the end of the year, because they have a pretty cake schedule through the WAC, but they played like a good team last night. I just think it will suck if a 1 loss SEC team, big 12 team, big ten team or ACC team gets passed up for BSU. I am a big fan of the strength of schedule component to be figured into the BCS rating for this very reason.

But, end of the day, they show up for every big game. Even if they win by less than a touchdown every time, it is still a win.

So, I know they have a total cakewalk for the rest of the season, but what if Boise pulls an "Ole Miss" (I'm really loving this btw) and totally blows it with one of their nobody teams. Would that end the NC talk for a few years, or just 2010?

And in response to an earlier comment, a 1-loss SEC team... Even if it's a game they have no business losing, is still going to be better than an undefeated Boise St team.

    SEC > WAC = that's a given!

But say Ole Miss magically gets their shit together and Houston Nutt pulls a rabbit out of his hat and they win out. This would mean beating #1 Bama, #14 Arkansas, and #19 LSU- ALL ON THE ROAD. Plus taking down #21 Auburn, Vandy, Kentucky, Tenn, and Miss State at home. Then add in the nonconference games UL Lafayette, Tulane, and Frenso St (from the mighty WAC). And then, the SEC Championship game vs more than likely Bama. To play that and come out with one loss, that would put them in the NC. And that's probably the simplest of the SEC schedules. And they already have a loss!

I can agree with the "on any given Saturday" theory to an extent. The numbers don't lie. As Matt said earlier, the SEC has dominated the BCS era. 5 of the last 7 NC titles belong to the SEC. LSU-2, Bama - 1, Florida - 2, Tennessee - 1. Yes, these guys have to "show up" every gameday. But, our guys usually do.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, Anyone check out the AP and USA rankings today? Nebraska's at #6 & #7, No complaints from me. Taylor Martinez Looked great on Saturday, never would have guessed that he was a red shirt freshman by watching him. It was great to see Zach Lee ride pine on 3rd string. Our defense was a bit scary there in the 2nd half... They need to get their shit together.
