CB specifics

That sounds fun lol, I plan on going camping and road tripping in my truck more and more, so it might not be a bad idea to get one, they are pretty cheap on Amazon I see.

For me, it's all three. Most of the people that I go off-roading with run them. I also work in the logging industry. We use CB's to let each other know where we're at and if we're coming or going so we can get out of each other's way. As for emergency, it's better than nothing if you don't have a cell signal. The problem with CB's is they are limited to 4 watts of transmitting power (legally). Consequently, their range can be rather short.

I installed and use mine mostly for trail communications. Most of the guys around here rely on CBs while off roading.
Other time I try to listen to truckers on ch 19, but around NYC it's bunch of BS on it, instead of anything useful.

The only times I’ve heard anything valuable on CB for highway driving has been in serious accidents with completely stopped traffic. The truckers up front will talk about what’s going on and then start bitching about cars cutting in front of them.

It's a bit different during my afternoon commute. There are a few assholes with high power radios spewing some shit/hate and whatever else between each other. "king of NY", "Richie" and some other asshole, putting out obnoxious show for everyone to listen to on ch 19, discouraging legit guys/gals from talking and interacting.
It is what it is.

 

getting ready to purchase a CB radio and mount my antenna to my total chaos bed stiffener. is this everything i need for the install?

 

Carefull on that antenna cable, looks like the ends are already soldered on. You will have to make a giant hole to fit the plug through, but will have only the small cable running through the giant hole.

I got this one so I could make a small hole to fit the plug through so its sealed when the cable goes through. I originally had a solder together cable, but when I had to re-run the cable it caused me all sorts of headaches to de-solder it, then try to resolder it again.

If you go with this cable, you will need to get a different antenna mount part (k-4a that you have listed)

That one is made by rago, kinda pricey, but there are a few companies that make them. the rago one is the only one that is reinforced, so its built a bit better than the rest.

The big end unscrews to make a smaller end that fits through small holes. Before that, I ran the bare cable through the hole, then soldered the end on. But it doesnt look like you can do that. You might have to remove the rubber plug, stretch it over the plug then put it back in.

 

Run the wire the other direction if you can, or, just cut the plug off, run the wire, and solder a new end on. Old school
