o_O that the squeaky wheel gets the grease? That someone will always complain? That nothing is perfect?

The tundra and land cruiser seem to have excellent scores. i can’t see all vehicles from the image, but I am willing to bet they are some of the highest scored vehicles in the report, which is definitely reflective of reality.

While no car is perfect, the land cruiser is close, and consumer reports seemed to have caught that.

    What?

The tacoma has had many shorcomings in its software and tuning, rust issues, multiple TSB issues needing resolution, an underpowered engine mated to a transmission with a gear ratio that didnt take into consideration the powerplant.

Passing all of that off as "oh well nothings perfect" is denial in its extreme form. For a new truck, being my first new vehicle purchase, i am extremely dissatisfied with what I got for my money and the trouble ive had with it.

And before you get all butthurt and defensive coming back with that tired "oh well then sell it and quit your bitching" bullshit. Just know that i just may sell the fuckin lemon and get something else if 2.0 and the adm mod and a rebleed of my clutch dont resolve my shifting nightmare that Toyota claims "is working normally". Im sorry a normal clutch and transmission does not clunk every time its shifted into gear, so you can piss right off with that shit right now.

Wait...according to all the car review places the tundra is a dinosaur and everyone hates it..

    Woah.. Consumer reports.

Clunky, rattling, squeaky. Whatever. I've had a hundful of new or newish small sports cars now. A tacoma is no where near refined in comparison, I can deal with that.

If you are in this truck for the offroad capability and manual trans, you really got no other choice.. Well, besides a wrangler. If you think mods and tunes are going to change your feel, forget about it and trade in now. It's just a vehicle.

Putting the bicthing aside, I love my manual trans truck. Ovtune is helping me love it more.

Id like it a whole lot more if it just shifted smoothly. Its not about the truck or lack of refinement something is sriously not right with the way it shifts and Toyota has blown me off since i bought it and now that the warranty period is ended im stuck with it unless they miraculously come out with a TSB for it and the dealership does the work... meanwhile ive got a squeaky clutch pedal (also an issue since it was new) and the dealerships also refuse to do THAT TSB to replace the pedal and mc assembly. They claim the tech couldnt reproduce the issue.... the sam tech that came to talk to me when i dropped off the truck who verbally conformed the pedal was creaking and TSB needd to be performed.... guess i need to get it in writing next time.

That Landcruiser is damn near perfect

that being said I'd say half the things people complain about are people bitching. And there are quite a bit of refinement issues a Toyota seems to have just forgotten about or are ignoring intentionally. Mine for example has a very awkward shift into first and second, and I don't like it. But it's not enough for me to get rid of the truck. Overall I love the damn thing it is the most poised vehicle I've ever driven in snow and that includes an LJ Wrangler.

thing is, you could get a Volkswagen amarok and find a million things wrong with it even though it's a nice truck. You can get a TRD pro tundra and find a million things wrong with it even though it's a b****in truck. at the end of the day, nothing is perfect and nothing will be completely right, and that's not an excuse that's just the reality we face. It's why we enthusiast love to mod and tinker and complain about the little things. It's fun and it's what we do.

although I'll say this, if you do end up going the Jeep route, stay away from the clubs and forums. You think people are bad here...

What I was pointing out was how Cusumer reports rated the Tacoma in the reliability and dependability department and nothing else.
The Tacoma has held that title for decades.
Only time will tell if the all new Canyon can beat the all new Tacoma in this department becuase it’s the used care market that determines this not a bunch of reviewers .hence the high resale value of the Tacoma.
No ,Toyota is not perfect and may have had some lemons in it fleet since it’s inception but it’s had least of the bunch.

I'm running 87fob for over 1000miles now. Its got its quirks, but still get surging in 2nd here and there. But even with stock tune, I felt a lot of the surging is my fault.. Example loading up the drive train without enough revs or forgetting to slip the clutch more.

I can't remember reading surging comments from 2.0beta. Does it feel better?

Less surging and dead spots in 2.0beta, plus an increase in mid range power and throttle is more linear.
Wile the post tip in power is muted over 87fob ,2.0beta is by far the best version yet and I am really looking forward to the update.

Hey Mat, do the handhelds hold the current tunes as well or is it only for open tuning?

Not sure about fob for towing.. Even towing my tiny river river boat I wish it had a little more mid range.

I have never flashed any other tune besides fob. What tune is best for towing?

2.0 is the best for everything of any tune I’ve run in the last 2 years

Blah blah blah you 2.0 Beta guys... Just trying to help out the guy who said he can't wait to try fob for towing. I think the midrange is a bit flat
