Tow strap hitch

Were are you guys finding these hitches with the tow strap loops?

 

It's called a reciever shackle. Make sure your not using a tow strap with a metal hook at the end.

They can be found at Tractor Supply too. A nice pretty yellow shackle, could keep the shins from bleeding. We all know that feeling.

 

How about the front!
What is the best way to secure a tow strap to the front of the Tacoma?
Can I drill and secure rings or hooks to the frame?
I want to secure a 8 ft tow strap at 2 points to create a center pulling point a few feet in front of the vehicle.
Are there aftermarket hooks which can be bolted to existing holes on the frame?
I have already mounted a "bull bar"Bumper Guard set up from JC Whitney but i would not trust girth-hitching a strap to it.
We will be rigging a tacoma as a "Technical" so we will need rapid front and rear extraction points in ambush situations...

ummm ok dumb question.......why?

 

Do you have a receiver?
Take the ball out of the receiver and put a D-ring in the hole there. Works just as good and costs half as much (if you already have a receiver).

 

I just picked up a Warne, for $40, nice and heavy. Do not care for the "silver" color but that can be changed.

 

If the line snaps, you don't want to be in the way of that metal end.

Hey Longbow,
Does the WARN fit close to the bumper like the one in Timmer's picture.
I had checked into another brand online and, by the measurements, would stick out farther than I'd like.
I want to get one of these, but I want it somewhat flush to the bumper.

The Warn does fit rather close to the bumper. Here is a pic of mine: (I had it powdercoated black) I highly recommend it.

 

i took the ball off my old reciever to make room for the shackle as see in this pic..


and in this pic i used a 3/4" shackle in the front on the driver side stock tow/tie down or whatever you wanna call, you have too look close to see it but the 3/4" size fits perfectly..

I'm considering getting a couple D-ring shackles, getting some sort of mounting "bar" made and welded to the frame on each side on the front. Just like the receiver shackle...

 

Harbor Freight has a D ring receiver hitch for only 12.99, it's item #[FONT=arial, sans-serif] 66212-0VGA.

It's rated up to 10,000 lbs and powder coated. I ordered one today, we'll see how well it holds up.
