Weed makes me have panic attacks , so I don’t smoke the stuff. And nope , I can’t legally buy or own a firearm, which is complete bullshit. Get put on disability due to mental health and you lose your right to defend yourself and your family. Don’t even get me started.

 

Isn’t that what all states do?! Unless you or your vehicle qualifies for life time tags.

 

Ok, wanted to understand exactly what it was. In Ontario we pay approx. $150 for a license plate sticker on a vehicle. This is a flat rate meaning what I pay on my 2017 Forte5 is the same as I do on my 2017 Tacoma 4x4 Off Road.

 

I’d think so. Don’t most cars have license plates? Antique vehicles, 25 years and older have life time plates here.

Yeah sounds like the same thing. It varies state to state. I think Louisiana is much cheaper with a flat rate.

Lifetime tags? WTF is that? I have lifetime hunting/fishing license's, non option for vehicle LT tags!

 

For example, my trailer was able to get lifetime tags by being a trailer. Vehicles of a certain age can. Also next year I can get perm tags for my Tacoma because my VA disability status rates zero cost and allows for lifetime tags after a vehicle is 2 years old.

We have that here in MS. Antique vehicles have life time tags for a one time fee. They have to be 25 years or older to qualify.

It’s very much not a state thing. It’s federal and it’s bullshit. All mental health disabilities get lumped into one group with gun laws now. Thank you Mr Obama !!! POS MF’er

 

Still requires at least being committed or a court determination. Even if you state being a harm to yourself to the VA, nothing comes of it. So it’s still pretty stringent at the federal level as to who “looses” those rights due to mental defect.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibits any person from selling or otherwise transferring a firearm or ammunition to any person who has been “adjudicated as a mental defective” or “committed to any mental institution.”16 According to federal regulations, a person has been “adjudicated as a mental defective” if a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority has determined that he or she, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease meets one of the following criteria:

• Is a danger to himself, herself, or others.
• Lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage his or her own affairs.17

The term “adjudicated as a mental defective” is defined to explicitly include a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity or incompetence to stand trial.18

Federal regulations define a person as “committed to a mental institution” if a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority has formally committed him or her to a mental institution. The term is defined to include involuntary commitments, but does not include persons who are admitted to a mental institution voluntarily or for observation.19
