To anyone that got the sensor recalled: did they have to Re-calibrate your sensor?
Thinking about putting on the faux pro grille, then bringing in my truck for the sensor recall and maybe recalibrating the sensor?

do sensor recall and then put on the faux grille. my understanding is re-calibration is only needed for lifts over ~1.5". i have a 1.5" lift and my sensor worked perfectly until I brought it in for the recall and they disabled it (because of faux grille and lift) and made me sign paperwork.

I took my 2018 sport in for 10k service and this recall. I have the OEM Pro grill. I was completely blindsided when they told me they would either have to put my original grill back on or disable the system. I told them to complete the 10k service and screw the recall. Ive had zero problems with the system.

When I went in to pick it up, I had a closed door chat with the service manager. He said this was a Toyota policy. I pointed out that this grille was purchased at his parts department (they offer installation!). I find it totally unacceptable that installing a Factory grill would change a darn thing. Wish I'd found this thread earlier!

Did they still disable it after you told them not to?

They left it alone. At first I thought the Service manager was an ass, but I see from this thread that his hands were tied by Toyota. The conversation was funny. He said "that's not the grill that came on your Truck" I said "it's an OEM TRD pro grill...you sell it in your parts Dept". I then asked if the recall effected TRD Pros....he said yes. So, I then asked what does it matter if both are OEM grills and it's the same sensor. I buy lots of Toyotas, this is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

I had my 10,000 service and had the recall done at that time. I have a lift, oversized tires and faux PRO grill with OEM garnish. After almost 2 hours of sitting in the lounge the service guy comes out with the infamous paper to sign (they only had "lift kit changing ride height" checked). I sign and was told they have to do a software update and re-calibrate the sensor. At that point they also offered a loaner car until it was finished which was nice. In the end they did not care about my grill or disable the system, and so far everything seems to work just fine.

Went in for 10K service and recall yesterday. Had 4R Pro wheels and 265/70-17s on, but no lift or grill change. Was asked "Are there any modifications to your truck such as lift.............", cut her off right there with a "NO!". It is such a minor height difference with 1" taller tires, 1/2" effectively higher sensor right?

Was waiting to hear from them about my "modification" but foam fix was applied no form to sign or questions asked. Feeling lucky and relieved! This is a huge dealership in NorCal and will stay with them because of this.

The recall is for a software calibration, and to apply sealant they will not replace the sensor unless it’s defective.

So to revive this ole thread, got a call from my local toyota, a cold call at that, asking for me to schedule an appointment for an "open recall" to replace the radar sensor. No come in and wed like to look at it. Throughout the message they never refer to is as a service campaign or suggested. Just that it was a recall for the millimeter wave sensor and that it needed to be replaced as soon as possible. Now I have the pro grill and have never had any issues, but has anyone else had this happen? Has the bulletin been upgraded to a full blown recall?

Yea I couldn't find anything online. Just found it odd that my dealer was cold calling to have me come in to replace the sensor

I took my faux pro off and went back to o.e.m. before I took mine it because I had read the early parts of this thread. I changed wheels and tire to 4runner off road 17's and have 255/75 but no lift. They gave me a nice 4runner for a loaner since I had things to do. When I went to pick up my truck they made me sign a liability waiver because I put the 32's on it. We had a nice argument because they the radar can't be reprogrammed to accept different scenarios such as a ride height change. I said that it was a stupid system and pointed out the sell new trucks that they lift on their floor. I also asked how the system would react to a few hundred pounds in the bed in case, God forbid, someone might use the truck as intended and the weak rear leafs would drop aiming the radar high. They had no answer. I wish I had marked my sensor. I dont think they changed it. I did notice the 3 weep holes on iy but mine may have already had them as it was a late 18 build. They had the the radar disabled and put a sticker on the steering column. I put my faux pro on the next day and turned the radar back on with no issues so far.

Dealer did mine with aftermarket TRD wannbe grill and all it was is cheap self adhesive weather trim foam along top. Never had an issue now I've been in already twice and keep getting "clean sensor" issues all a sudden.... going to have to take it back for a 3rd time now and hoping they just replace it. Never had an issue until they stuck foam on it....

I actually experienced this last weekend and came across this post after doing some research. The details Ops mentioned in the original post somewhat replicate a bit of what I experienced.

It happened around 9pm on I-40 (it was cloudy and pretty dark) headed towards Needles, CA. Had my cruise control at 72 and had just cleared passing an 18 wheeler when the brake/collision warning lights start flashing/bleeping, the truck applied brakes automatically for a sec or so and then resumed to 72 again. I think the warning indication may have said collision too but I can’t remember as it happened pretty fast.

Called the dealer and they said a recall (manufacturer ID K0B) was issued a few months back so I will be taking it in.

Is there a way to disable the per collision settings?

Well I just got 10k oil change last week. I put pro grill on 200-500 miles after getting it along with light bar behind bumper. It is a lease but I plan on doing buy out after, well at least I thought I did. Well no recall so far, but sensor has just started giving me problems after 10k. So 9500-9800 mile no problem now they say because I installed the pro grill its wrong sensor. I will have to order the right one and recalibrate it or put factory one back on and recalibrate it. Lucky for me a guy came in with same year pro same color with tons of accessories on it with lift. So he looked at sensor and it has same part number as mine. So they are fixing and ordering new sensor under warranty. I also found video a guy made on the sensor on the tube he call main corporate number and they made his dealer fix and replace. They told him it doesn't matter what grill is on the truck aftermarket or factory it should work with out issues. If I have anymore issues then I will call otherwise after lease they will get truck back stock and I'll buy a different off lease truck and put my accessories on it! From different dealer and I might start going to different dealer for service as I have heard complaints about this one.

just got my truck back from the dealership after they called and said the part came in for me. they gave me the documentation stating that it was done, along with the multipoint inspection. when i popped the hood and looked in, i didn't see the sticky pad installed along the top. i don't even think they took off the sensor to do anything. am i missing something here? was i supposed to get that pad installed? i dont know why it took them 2 months to get a "part" in, and i don't see anything installed.

more info: 2019 DCLB, stock height, trd faux pro grille. installed a washer on the top of the sensor to angle it upwards. don't have many issues except for some false errors here and there.

Pad gets installed differently on the Pro grille setup. I don't think you can see it very easily as you can on the non pro grille.
Also, if you have the new style sensor you didnt need the pad.
