True story - I once offered a coworker some Advil when she told me she had a headache, and she said she never takes the stuff because she "doesn't want to get addicted". I wanted to tell her that ibuprofen isn't a fucking narcotic, but sometimes you just get the impression that someone is so dense that it wouldn't matter what you say, they won't believe you.

 

Nice. The Surge right? I think you mean in/lbs. Impact drivers are usually rated in in/lbs not ft/lbs. If you need much more power, get a impact with the square anvil.

The new M12 3/8 compact impact is pretty strong, more power than the M18 3/8 compact impact. I never got it cause I think it looks funny lol. If they update the M18 3/8 compact impact I'll get it.

When the M18 Hi Torque 1/2 impact came out I got that, 1200 ft/lbs but that's "nut busting" torque (peak). The new one is even stronger, 1400 ft/lbs now I think. Thing was powerful but it was too bulky & cumbersome to use. I didn't need that much power so I gave it to my brother when the M18 1/2 Mid Torque came out. I love the mid torque. Hoping for a new M18 3/8 compact to come out.

 

Good call on that honestly. Sometimes I feel the same way about telling people things they could easily look up. Most obvious one that comes to mind would be the fuel pump will overheat and burn out if you run the tank low. It's a completely baseless wives tale that has never at any point in time been remotely true.

 

So far I haven’t has a issue. But some times we get really stuck or tight bolts. Or have to drive on big concrete anchors or lag bolts. So im thinking of getting a much stronger impact for that. I think the normal nut driver with 1600 inlb should be good enough. Don’t think i need big boy with 1400 ftlb lol

 

They turn off when the engine turns off from starvation

 

Unless your frame truck had its wiring removed and now the pump is wired strait to the battery

 

Yeah that'd be really dumb though, even aftermarket ECUs support fuel pump control, no excuse not to use it.

 

I admit I bought into that one when I was new to TW and working on my truck in general. Was trying to absorb everything that I could, but that's sort of the dark side to having such an active forum with such vast amount of content on it - not all of that content is supported by truth.
But yeah, occasionally you come across people that believe what they want to believe and nothing you present to prove otherwise will matter. I think some people are quick to be defensive in life and esp on internet forums because the prospect of being proven wrong in front of an audience is too much to handle. The internet is a funny place in that regard.

They generally just use little engine driven ones or have a key on switched circuit for it. No reason to leave the key on if the engine is dead from lack of fuel and 5 mins of running without fuel won't kill one of those little clickity clack low pressure carb fuel pumps.

 

Speaking of hotrod, I wonder how he's doing. 10 ish more days?

 

Woah WTF, I just looked up the surge, it only has 450 in/lbs? That's not very much at all. I never paid attention to them cause they were crazy expensive when they came out. I don't care about less noise & whatever.

I have the Fuel gen2 impact driver that has 1800 in/lbs. The new gen 3 has 2000 in/lbs now! My old Dewalt brushed impact drive had more than 450 in/lbs, thing used to get really hot driving lags & concrete anchors though. The M18 impact driver I have now I love. I can't imagine having only 450 in/lbs??

But whatever, those are just bragging numbers as far as I'm concerned. As long as it gets the job done is all that matters. But I wonder why only 450 in/lbs. Curious what the benefit of the hydraulic is now.

 

Anyone happen to know what this adapter is for? It fits a scuba tank. I was told it was for filling paintball canisters. But I don't think it is.

 

I can tell you this. You hardly even tell its running compared to a normal impact. It feels like just using a drill.

But yeah 450 is low. I need something with more power for those really stubborn bolts i will come across

I somehow haven't managed to get a jury summons in almost 10 years, then my wife got one earlier this summer and I bragged about it. Should've known better. At least I'm halfway through the week and haven't had to go in yet.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be a good experience to be a juror on an interesting case someday...but my company doesn't compensate for jury duty and I really can't afford to take a week or more off work right now. Here's hoping I make it through the next few days without getting summoned

 

I just looked it up. Ah I see now & why the rating is only 450 in/lbs. Makes sense since it's not actually an impact driver. It doesn't rely on hammering to drive a fastner, it relies more on constant rotational torque like how a drill motor would drive a fastener. I suppose that would be handy if you drive small to medium fastners all the time. Not for me though, I much rather have an impact driver. Wish I knew someone close that had a surge, I'm curious how it feels.

 

Weird, must've been really old. GM vehicles have a priming circuit and a run circuit. Priming circuit happens on key on and terminates after a preset time, then they stay off unless a certain time has passed, where they will reprime. I bet if it wasn't really old it just kept re priming every so often until it burnt. Cause if you stall a GM vehicle the pump will stop, that's a safety thing.

 

I just got into a class I needed with a waitlist of 43 people. It's a damn miracle.
