another thing is there was a Lower ball joint recall for your truck which may have never gotten done by the previous owner if you call a Toyota dealer service department they can run your VIN# to see if it was ever done which would be a totally free repair with loaner car or run your VIN on this site to see might have something to do with ur jittering front endhttps://www.toyota.com/recall

Tires are not the issue... brand nor tread...by the feel of the wheel...the seat of your pants..where specifically do you feel the vibration?

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
@marigold i would do this simple check on the suspension. These trucks shouldn’t bounce more than once if the struts are good. My tundra gets bouncy on the highway but that’s because if a blown out strut.
    Here’s a video explaining.

I run handkook ATM tires. They are around 600 a set and are a great road tire and dirt tire.
I get 100k out of a set and they ride very nicely

its pretty easy to check the struts first look at each strut to see if there is any oily residue or what looks to be a oil leak running down the sides of the struts usually will come from under that rubber looking boot thing on top, if not then push all the way down on each fender above each side and let go, the fender shouldn't rebound more than 1-1 1/2 times, if the struts pass both these tests then the struts are OK. at your mileage 80k miles the stock struts are coming to the end of the road usually you can get 100k miles as long as they don't spring an oil leak that means they are toast.

if you look at the picture show on post #106 you see all those aggressive knobby pieces on the tire these cause irregular vibrations and wear when driving at high or low speeds on pavement, not to mention the weight of the tire also will effect the handling and performance and the MPGs compared to a stock all season tire. put it this way they are form(looks) over function, always buy tires based on how your going to use the truck, if you spend most of your time driving on pavement/highways as a daily driver you wont want to have an AT tire they will eat your gas up and they aren't as comfortable as an all season tire.

Sorry I abandoned my own thread!!!! So I just got the alignment done and it didn’t help anything. Brand new tires are balanced.

Then i had a mechanic drive it. He came back and said “I’ve got good news and bad news: there’s nothing wrong with your truck”

He said the shocks were perfect, carrier bearing fine, etc, and he asked me if I’d ever driven a Tacoma before. According to him, my truck drives like every other one he’s ever driven... which was comforting but also confusing. The vibration around 30 mph seems even more noticeable than before which really sounds like a carrier bearing from what I’ve read... so annoyed to not have a solution but beginning to accept defeat that maybe I just drove a Honda for too long......

I will update this if I get any other info. You guys are amazing.

Majorly in the steering wheel!! It feels all over the place. It’s like super jitters on bumps and the whole truck feels wobbly/vibey on acceleration around 10-30 mph especially. I can feel it in my foot too but mainly the wheel.

Don’t get discouraged.. you’ll resolve it and think back at how fun it was to find the problem. My engine died at 130,000 miles after a new small block purchase I’m happy I kept the 1st gen. Selling it crossed my mind but 1st gens are such a jem

My steering started to feel sketchy when my tie rods needed to be replaced, thats' something to consider.

Also what PSI do you run your tires at? When I first got my 04, the dealership had the tires inflated to over 50 psi and it made the drive home sketchy as hell. Shaky, bumpy and the rear end felt like it wanted to jump sideways with every little bump in the road. Brought the PSI down to about 32 on all 4 tires and it made a world of difference.

I don't believe that mechanic , there's no reason that truck shouldn't drive without the steering wheel pulling or shaking . When you find the problem it will drive like new . Find one close to the same year as yours at a dealer and test drive it and see how it drives , GL .

This sounds super identical to how my truck feels.. front end though, but exact same description otherwise esp with the jump sideways. I will check the PSI, I am sure the tire place put them at the higher end. Thanks so much!!

Ooh that’s a great idea. I agree that the rattling/shakiness just can’t be totally normal. Totally going to test drive another one... Thank you!!
