I'm hoping that I can get some help with a PO500 code on my 99 single cab with a 2.7. I currently don't have any tachometer or speedometer but the fuel and temp gauges are still reading.

I haven't been able to find much in searching the forum for help with this but what I have found points to the possibility of it being a variable speed sensor (where is that found on my truck), ECU, or dash cluster. These are all spendy fixes so the last thing I want is to start throwing parts at the problem especially since I just dropped cash on new LBJ's and am about to pull the trigger on a set of headers to fix my cracked manifold.

Start with wheel speed sensors on each wheel and report back. Make sure here plugged in and the wires aren’t broken or kinked in the harnesses.

    Does your truck have ABS?

Thank you! I will take a look at that tonight, I don't believe it has ABS, it's a base model and I've never seen an ABS light on at start up. Whereabouts in the NW are you at? I'm from SW WA

Kitsap County. I’ve had this code before on my second gen and it ended up bein a broken junction box. The one that holds the cabin fuse panel by your left knee.

Ok I'll take a look in that area too and report back. Hoping it's something simple like your problem.

Lol I actually am having the same problem. Bought a cheap gps speedo off Amazon until I get off my lazy ass. Just put a crawlbox in and don't think I wired the speedo right, that could be your problem. Its (speedo plug) is above the t case I think on the passenger side. Make sure its not fucked up

Mine drove me mad. It was NOT simple to diagnose. So start with the easy stuff like wheel speed sensors but I your truck has no ABS then you might not have any. If you don’t check the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission or transfer case (if 4x4)

I also don't remember seeing any sensors around the hubs when I did my brakes a while back but I already have one of the wheels off so it shouldn't take me long to verify.

Also, yes it is a 4x4, what confuses me about that particular sensor is how it could relay both speed and tach

Thank you, I have to climb under there soon to get at the last flange nut on my exhaust manifold so I'll take a look for that sensor too to see if its jacked up at all. Will I have to drain the T-case to pull it out?

nosir, but might be worth a fluid change if you've never done it before

Great news! I monkeyed with a sensor sticking out of passenger side of the transmission way in the rear a couple weeks ago thinking that may be the issue and ended up with a bunch of gear oil on me. Last code I had was for an O2 sensor that I fixed by hitting it with a hammer so I was hoping something similar would work here haha. That O2 sensor hasn't stepped out of line in the last 5 years so can't fault me for hoping!

You fixed an O2 sensor by whacking it with a hammer? Impressive

I'm kind of bummed I fixed mine by spending $120 to replace it....should have smacked it with a hammer first.
