Toyota sure doesn't make it easy to find that info. I keep seeing it referred to as having 3 open differentials (no viscous couplers like on 1st gen), but I don't know the type. It's a 2nd gen highlander (2008-2013 model year).

I worked at discount tire for 2 years back in the day. You have to replace all 4, its sucks.

Stole this off the interwebs "In vehicles with all-wheel-drive systems, including Subarus, Audis and Lamborghinis, the differential and the computer work together to send the right amount of torque to each wheel to minimize slippage and maximize control. If one of the tires is a different size than the others -- because three tires are worn and one is brand new -- the computer will take an incorrect reading and the differential will work too hard. Drive this way long enough and you'll burn out the drivetrain. There are exceptions, even for AWD vehicles. If the tires only have a couple thousand miles on them and one needs to be replaced, that's okay. Also, if you need to use the small spare to limp to the nearest repair shop, that's probably not far enough to do any serious damage."

So for those with BP-51 and possibly Kings or Fox's, I was able to install a Headstrong Off-road 1/4 inch lean spacer today. While I did not have to loosen all the expected bolts, I did have to disconnect the shock at the bottom and it took a little more finagling to get it in place. I was able to source longer bolts at Tacoma Screw.
One observation, the spacer has a much smaller overall diameter as compared to the top hat of the BP's. Probably not an issue but we will see if the mount gets deformed.

Oh, and the darn thing is finally level!

I probably would if it wasn't the wife's car. At least we got three years out of the tires I guess. And they should pro-rate the one they can't fix. Plus Costco is having a sale on those tires. Oh well, I have an appointment for Saturday to get it fixed/replaced.

    Are floor mats a mod?
I can’t see how that little diff would matter.
I do know when I had to use my stock spare (30 1/2”) when I was on 33s it did weird things to my abs over 25 mph so I pulled the fuse to get home.

Anyone else having trouble with discount tire balancing tires correctly? this'll be my 4th time back on a brand new set of falkens to get balanced. Might get them road forced to see if there was a mold problem :annoyed:

New rims and tires or just new tires? After four times I'd be asking for them to get four new tires or a different brand if those particular ones won't balance right.

I’ve heard of a few folks having balancing issues with the wildpeak’s. I’d request a new set or another brand.

I’ve heard that Discount actually took care of the issue but in one instance Falken had to step in. I would have a chat with the Manager and make sure he’s aware of the issues and give him a chance to make it right.

Actually just got off the phone with the manager at the discount tire in shoreline. What a top-notch guy! Going in after work today, and he's going to take care of it all.

Glad to hear. Im not sure what the official policy is. But when a buddy had issues (i cant remember what tire) they just ordered 4 more and mixed and matched to find the 4 that would balance the best.

Discount is my go to place for tires. The free rotations and balance for the life of the tires bought from them makes it well worth it. My Method rims and Copper ST Maxxx tires seem to go 6-10k before they need ot be re balanced or I get annoying vibrations.
