    I believe my truck is a Texas build and it has Toyo's on it. Great tire. I have seen Sports around town with Toyo and Firestones.

    (I do put Nokian Hakkapeliitta winters mounted on 2005 Tundra wheels for winter though.)

    As for my fake hood scoop, it has a function, it looks good on my hood.

    Not sure where mine was built? Had Firestone, replaced with Nittos.

    Your truck is a MT so it was made in Texas.

    In 2014 it was the only TRD package in DCLB. And I do use the OEM inverter and bed receptacle.

    Really just a difference/choice in trim for most people. :anonymous:

    Let's face it, for the vast majority of us, we NEVER utilize our trucks to their fullest extent. There are a number of truly hardcore guys here - that I appreciate and am in awe of many times - that push their trucks to the limit, but for the rest of us the choice between Sport, Off Road, or even Pro comes down to personal taste.

    I needed a 4WD truck to access a local drive on beach that requires 4WD vehicles. Frankly, light duty. Cross-shopped Outbacks, Wranglers, and Tacomas. For one of the few times in all of human existence, the wife and I actually agreed on a vehicle and that a Tacoma was the right choice for us. :bananadance::jellydance::kona:

    So it came down to a Sport versus an OR. We weren't going to pay for a Pro.

    Deciding factors for us?
    • Black flares;
    • No hood scoop;
    • Crawl Control (wife wanted to be ensured she NEVER got stuck in the sand when using the truck with her girl friends); and most importantly
    • An OR was the only vehicle our dealer had available at the time that was Cement!
    So look at that list, and other than Crawl Control - which has yet to be used, actually came close last month - it was all about personal taste. I actually like the scoop; the wife didn't. To be fair though, I had to point out the scoop and painted flares to her! :rofl:

    Sport guys, how do you like your suspension on the highway and such?

    I’m thinking about moving from my Pro to a 2020 Sport as all I do anyway are runs to Lowes. That’s sports, right?

    I was originally looking at a 4-door SR5. Then I found out that the SRs don't come with built-in navigation, hence, I started looking at the TRDs. I didn't want to spend a lot more, but still, I wanted the builtin navigation. So I compared the Sport with the Off road. Strangely enough, the Sport has 17" wheels whereas the Off Road has 16" wheels. One would think the off road should have bigger wheels, but whatever! And yes, the Sport has the hood scoop, which I am still debating on whether I like it or not! But also, the Off Road comes standard with those black wheel cutout trims. I knew that after a few years, they would "grey out" and they wouldn't look good, so that is what turned me towards the Sport. Also, just because of physics, I knew that the bigger wheels on the Sport would provide a better ride than the Off Road, so the Sport just kept looking better to me, all things considered.

    Based on my experience, it was certainly a tighter suspension. Not that I was road-racing or anything, but the Sport felt more stable in curves than the Off Road. The Sport rides harsher over road imperfections compared to the Off Road.

    If you're primarily a smooth pavement/highway driver then it's hard to beat the Sport. A friend of mine has a limited edition FJ Cruiser and he prefers to ride with me if we are highway/long distance pavement driving. He equates the smoothness of the ride vs the FJ, as he calls it, stepping back into a "bucket of bolts". Don't get me wrong, the FJ (and his is top of the line and well maintained)is a very capable machine but no fun to ride in when we have to travel 450 to 550 miles to deer hunt. The Sport is really equipped for the road and quite a fun and capable truck off road also.

    How do you like MT and push button start? You get one or the other.

    The OR has softer suspension than the Sport and would be a more comfortable ride on the road. The sport wont roll as much or dive under braking.

    When i see people who talk down about the SR but own a TRD, Sport i kinda laugh because the truck isnt more capable for the price. Also

    The Sport is made for the blacktop . If I trade it in on a newer truck it will be a Sport and I bet 75% of the OR sold never really off road . Any truck can drive down a path , through a field or cross a stream .

    For me the Sport's suspension was a non issue, I went with Bilstein 6112/5160s and now have both better on and off road ride plus more ground clearance than either factory trims.

    The improved ride on the 6112/5160s has to be felt to be appreciated, it soaks up bumps in stride.

    Nothing but respect for SR owners! I also owned an SR for a short while. It’s annoying to know some TRD owners look down on non-TRD Tacomas. That’s completely not the case for me. I love Tacomas, period! :thumbsup:
