Are you looking for a campground or dispersed camping? My parents have stayed at the Memaloose State Park a couple of times and really like it. They say to get a site closer to the river (away from the highway). It's a little east of hood river.

Personally, I like the Hampton Inn right in Hood River. Walking distance to great breweries and restaurants. Lots of "van life" people park at the event site there to kite surf, I'm not sure if you can stay overnight or not.

Edit: The walmart there has "no camping" signs, but there are always RVs parked there at the edge of the lot.

Dispersed camping if I can get it. I have a tent on the roof so a hotel is a last resort.

There’s all sorts of forest service roads by lost lake that lead to mt hood zig zag area. Dispersed camping all around there.

    Random question for Friday:

I see a lot of people now days in Washington running around with out a front license plate. For Tacoma's its mainly people who have aftermarket front bumpers and a winch. Washington state law doesn't specifically allow it from my understanding and you can get an exemption if the vehicle does not have a spot for a front plate from the factory (Ferrari, etc.) So is everyone not running a front plate just hoping they fall into the grey area?

Just try it out and see how it goes. Always play dumb when you get pulled over, that’s my philosophy.

I don’t run one but the cops probably look at my NH plate and think where's NH?

I wonder about that often. Put my bumper on last Fall(?) and haven't added my plate. No issues yet, but it sure seems an easy excuse to get pulled over if they're suspicious about anything else. Didn't realize there was a possibility to apply for an exception.

I know of people that haven't run a front plate since 2007, and don't currently have one on their 2011 and 2015 cars, and haven't had any issues. They do have one on their 16 year old daughter's car however, since it was there when it was bought, and it seemed prudent to leave it......

That’s what I was reading at least. But that if you apply what the state patrol will do is call a dealership and ask if it comes with or has an option for a plate to be added on. So in any scenario it would likely be denied.

I’m not looking to add any more reasons to draw attention to my truck since it seems to do that well enough as is lol

A lot of people with steel front bumpers don't run a front plate, and just risk a ticket or put it on their dash (which looks horrible) Also from what ive heard the state doesn't hand out those exemption stickers very often.

I used a couple of bit-tip Tek Screws and affixed it to my front plate bumper, been there ever since!

I dont think hypothetical 16 year old girls need any more reasons to get pulled over by the cops. I have a front but keep forgetting to relocate my rear plate after having just mounted a rear tire that covers it.

I ran without since i bought my truck till this past June. Only put it on just to save hassles with at the border since my parents were driving the truck. I went with the rivet nut route for it.

Cops over here never seemed to care. See all sorts of cars/trucks without front plates.

Yeah exactly, my wife drives the truck sometimes, I don't want any excuse for her to get pulled over for something silly.

The only ticky tacky thing i could get pulled over for is not having mud flaps. And for being white.

I ended up drilling and tapping holes in my bumper for the license plate before I painted it. No reason to invite extra attention to my truck that sticks out like a sore thumb already. On the plus side having it mounted at the angle it is in the front and with the tire on the swingout in the back above the rear plate, the cameras on 520 can't see either plate so I don't get charged on the rare occasion I drive across the bridge.

The WSP can make an exemption but it ain't happening. Mr Ferrari can get a bracket just like mr corvette, difference is Mr Ferrari probably is ok just paying the ticket if he ever got stopped for it.

Also plate in your windshield isn't the front of your vehicle as the law requires. You can still be ticketed or stopped.

I pretty much haven't run a front plate on any of my cars ever and have just been prepared to get tickets for it occasionally. In the 20+ years I've been driving (fuck, I'm getting old) I've been pulled over for it a handful of times and have only gotten a ticket for it once.
