Curious: Why do people still black out license plates when posting pics of their vehicles?

I post my license plate up all the time, in most states you can't look up the info, in fact I don't think you can in ANY states anymore. Those laws changed years ago, I'm in the car business and even if I run a KSR I won't get the owner's address, just the lien and name. Furthermore every time a KSR is requested its LOGGED, so even if I did get someone's name, track them down that way and do something if they file a police report it'll be immediately clear who did it. A lot of cops themselves get in trouble for this (looking up citizen info without proper cause).

In the 90s you could go to the DMV and pay like $2 to get address and owner records, but they nixed that a long time ago probably because of situations like people in here are worried about.

Had a cop buddy who got suspended for this exact reason, looked up info on someone he had no business. Knew someone who looked up medical info on a friend and got fired for it. Big brother is always watching. Can't take a shit without someone knowing

Turn it into a poll, maybe with these questions:

    1. Public identity issues.
I have a custom plate, not too easy to hide at this point.

    2. Everyone else does it.
extra effort to black it out or blur, nah

    3. Don’t want the boss to see me here when I should have been working.
ha.. about 5 minutes ago my boss saw how many threads from here I had open, no comment!

    4. Hiding my stuff from the Ex.
    luckily isn't a stalker

    5. Hiding my stuff from the bank!
I own my car, paid in full

not blacking it out is extra effort for me. Also mine is custom and red/blue/ white and my truck is all black so it adds a bit of contrast.

Be respectful, don't call your mom a yeti. And that wasn't a bear. I just forgot to shave my back. Always so dramatic...

That back hair is no joke, get that professionally removed looks better. Also, if you had been at my parents house, there'd be a grave yard in the back yard I would've noticed. Unless you're spiderman

It's warm and I look too good, as-is. And here, just smell that armpit... Eh?

You and your parents would bury an intruder in YOUR yard?? Isn't that about as dumb as the gauge goes? Bury them in your boss's yard. Someone will get promoted.

Duh, if you bury it in someone elses yard you increase your chances of getting caught. Bury it in your yard and you're just a home owner planting a new tree for the summer. Makes great fertilizer

No. You'll kill that tree. Omnivores make terrible fertilizer. Fish, however, works great. But enough about your mom: this is about license plates.

I can kinda understand doing it if it is someone else's vehicle, just to be courteous to the other person. But if it's my own vehicle I dont really care since everyone on the road already sees it.
