i can’t find any parts or threads about whether it’s possible to cut the bed liner and install the driver side big cubby in the backside of the bed if it didn’t come stock on the truck. Anyone have any answers for this?

Coming from a full size truck I’m trying to maximize all the space I can in the Tacoma and if that cubby is a decent place to put snatch straps and what not I want it.

Don’t see why you can’t, probably a good idea to get a more weather resistant one if you follow through

Yea I saw a thread here once where someone was selling kits that made them a lot more weather resistant, but I don’t want to buy anything if it’s not just a jigsaw to the liner type job. I’ll hack it up if the space is there, but I guess I’m just looking to find someone who’s done it before so I’m not going in blind

Tuffy also makes one but I have heard it prone to rust.

someone on TW was selling plugs for the factory box weep holes but that was a while ago.

I purchased the cubby slot covers and installed them last month. Delivery was fast and fit is great. I added a silicone bead around the sides in case the double sided sticky tape lets go, over time.

This was after a few thousand miles of running around on Central Oregon snow covered roads with cinder spread out for traction.

I recently saw a Tacoma cubby on Craigslist for cheap. A wrecking yard might have one for a decent price.
Looking up towards bottom of left side cubby.

I've been contemplating putting one in my 2019, but the OEM pricing has me hesitating. I might go brows the junk yard when I've got an afternoon to kill.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. After watching the video, I googled the part number listed in the comments below the video, and I was actually surprised at how much Toyota/Amazon, etc, are charging for the box. I would actually like to install one, but it is not worth $200 to me to do it. I too, would just look to find one in a junk yard somewhere if I was that desperate to get one...

Just in case you guys didn't know, there is a vendor here that has a deeper drop-in box that replaces the cubby on the older Tacos:
    https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-235-toyota-tacoma-bed-security-lockbox.aspx

It looks like the price went up a bit from what I remember. And, I believe folks said that it needs a bit more rust protection.

Regardless, if I had a 2019, I'd go this route for the extra storage since I find the cubbies on my 2017 very useful.

They show up on ebay and craigslist from time to time for much less.

A couple of days ago, while prepping for the hurricane, I left my small bed compartment cover sitting on the bed cover and it blew off on the way to my house. I found it, about 200 yards, before the turn into my subdivision. It was obvious that someone had hit it. I have been able to made it work. I looked up the cost for a replacement cover, $51. WTH!

You can get a new set of metal ones with locks for about $120

Yeah that's a good option provided the rust issue is solved. I think I'd go that way vs the OEM. Still pisses me off that I need to spend $200+ for something that should have been there from the factory. Oh well, I know it wasn't there when I bought the truck so I guess I've got no room to complain.

I am not sure they solved the rust issue. Myself, I'd hit the exposed areas with spray on bedliner no matter what.
