Pry open the CV boot clamp and shoot grease under the boot with something like this:  https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lumax-S...llon-1-1-2-in-Long-with-Cap-LX-1416/302545005

Replace the CV cinch-style clamp with a worm clamp (which is commonly used for the inboard CV boot slide mod).

Checkout your reservoir. They are two pieces and press together using four bent tabs. There is a YouTube video on disassembling one of them. Check that out too. Sounds like that’s where your fluid is coming from. Also that whine could very well be your screen starting to clog. Mine was so clogged that it whined all the time, I was sure the pump was shot from running dry for so long. But free always comes first so I cleaned the reservoir screen and voila. Power steering is like brand new, all the time. I highly recommend sucking the ps fluid out and checking that reservoir real well. Flush and replace fluid with Fresh ATF while your at it, not PS fluid.

I literally just bought a cheap kit from Walmart and it came with the needle attachment. They really aren’t hard to find...in real life.

Cap seal is leaking. Had mine do that until my pump started making whining noises when i go on bumpy roads, when i opened the resovoir it smelled burnt so i left it for a couple months until i did a full flush and clean on the pump. Still going strong today.

    UPDATE:

I burned the purple tank top.

Okay, so i cleaned the boot well enough to eat off it. Drove it a bit, and there is a TINY hole in the outer ridge of the boot, and it's spitting grease every so slightly. CRAP.

I read a ton of posts on cv boots and i came up with a plan. It needs to be replaced. I get it. The offending boot is on the passenger side. I have a 3" lift and expect to wear out the inner boots sooner or later AND i will likely need the ECGS bushing mod sometime. This will require pulling the drivers side axel. So I'm gonna put this boot change off as long as possible and do it all (boots and bushing) at the same time.

    And I'm cheap (frugal).

So it's getting patched. I'll use a needle on the grease gun to fill the boot back up thought the offending hole. Then a small squirt of the best rubber cement ever, Barge contact cement. Its what shoe makers use and what glues the Muppets together. Then i will cover that with a small piece of gorilla tape and let the experiment begin!

I know, I know. Its not the right way to do things. Blame it on those guys the venture off the paved path and poke holes in their cv boots while wheeling. Somebody mentioned they got 20k out of their duct tape patch. But hey, what do I have to lose at this point? I'll keep an eye on it and see how many miles we get out of my MacGyver Patch. Will keep ya posted on my success (or failure).

This was some excellent writing. I was laughing as I read. I like the needle ideas.

Well hell. Heres the janky MacGyver Patch.
First, filled with grease and cleaned. Then lightly scuffed. Then cleaned with denatured alcohol. Then glued with contact cement, let dry. Then covered with gorilla tape.

Yep this is sketchy buisiness for sure. But i got nuthin to lose. Lets me know what you think; snarky, complimentary, or otherwise. I'm a big boy, I can take it. 20190906_115238.jpg 20190906_115823.jpg 20190906_115907.jpg 20190906_120238.jpg 20190906_121045.jpg 20190906_122848.jpg 20190906_123031.jpg

So your time of deep reflection is over? Like you said nothing to lose. I like it. Have found remanufactured CV shafts to not last long.

Nothing to lose. Worth a try! It's not like it can do more damage on other components since it's a sealed (or not sealed) unit.
