Let me know what you find in the bed light circuit. That’s my last step. Haven’t had time to revisit it.

how do you like the roam awning? is that the 6.5' or 8' model? did you mount it with the brackets that came with the awning or the uptop shadebrkts?

I actually just got it and haven’t even been able to open it yet... :anonymous:

I got the 6.5’ model, and I used the uptop brackets (worth it if you have the rack)

nice! looking forward to a review once you get some use out of it. do the brackets that come with the awning not work at all with the rack?

I didn’t even try cause I had the uptop ones. I can check tonight. The ones that come with the awning are L brackets

This felt like it should be easy...I found this wiring diagram on TW:
    upload_2017-8-4_23-47-0.jpg

However when I put a meter on the switch I see "reverse voltages".
    1. When the cargo light is On, switch pin 5 (Blue) has No voltage.
    2. When the cargo light is Off, pin 5 show 12 Volts against ground.
This is reverse of what I expect. Then looking at the diagram, the connections on the Cargo LP Relay pins 1 & 3 being shorted it feels like that could mean this is a negative switch circuit of some sort...do you have any experience with seeing relays wired this way, can it in essence reverse the voltage but not short out?

Put another way, I felt switch pin 5 should be Off unless the door is open and/or the switch On, but I'm seeing Pin 5 on.

You have to find the main power that runs to the lights. None of the switch wires will power rack lights. (Ask me how I know)

And I checked voltage on all of them. I think the cargo switch wiring is just signal wiring back to an ecm.

Yup, I was designing triggering a relay for the load, but felt I could leverage the output to the existing cargo relay to trigger a parallel and the circuit diagram shows the dash switch is last in the loop. I'll probably tap a different control circuit as I know in some vehicles the ecm overrides the cargo lights when you start driving.

I am so glad we are talking about this.

For those of us that have the alpha XL since we need to remove the headliner can we just tap it in with the bed light at the light instead of the switch?

I also have a snug top so the bed light is useless. I’m considering just unplugging it all together and relplacing it with the S2 on the rear fairing.

Would this work you think? Or are those too much draw?

I would always tap a circuit to trigger a relay that carries the load from a branch off the fuse box. Especially with wires that will be exposed to full on outside wind ice and rain.

However your suggestion is good, and I’ve been contemplating using that circuit to drive the aforementioned relay, just need to find a clean yet accessible spot for the relay in case it ever fails.

To your root question, measure the current of the existing cargo light and if your new lights draw the same or less you can assume you can swap them out, I just prefer to isolate new loads from existing circuits.

So which wire are you tapping for the relay control circuit.

I was going to use the cargo light fuse power with an add a fuse.

Oh I almost like this idea.

Except I would pull the fuse to the cargo light to disable it. Because camper shell and all that.

Yeah. That’s initially what I tapped. But it leaves the lights on full time.
That’s the supply power. The switch interrupts the power supply looks like through the main body ecu.
    Soooo
If you can find the pin out for the main body ecu, you can figure out what wire runs straight to the cargo light and just tap that wire. The BD lights pull such little current it wouldn’t hurt it. And id put like a 5 amp fuse in after the tap just in cases.

Is there any way to mount accessory hardware to the rack without removing the crossbars?

The mounting hardware that comes with UpTop mounts and brackets have rounded edges on the bottom so they can slide in without having to be removed.
For example, take a look at the video @boogie3478 made at about 1:40:

Nope, you are right, they aren't listed on the site as they typically don't sell them separately. Get in touch with @Doozy4212 and I'm sure he can help you out with that.
