If I get the chance I'll still go just to see and drive across the Golden Gate Bridge; and I'd like to take Alcatraz tour if they still do that. PCH trip from WA down to Monterrey Bay is still a bucket list trip for me.

Randy's son lives there. Works 2-3 jobs to make rent, etc; but he loves it. They have family there and his son is tight with cousins. The city is still worth it for him. FWIW.

    Good to read this, Susan.

Aluminum is a conductor and I'll bet the hoses use a conductive type of material to displace any charge.

I am a morning person, even at 2:30AM ... guess that's why mid-shifts work so well for me. :notsure:

Plus went out to friends cabin NW of town yesterday...always makes me happy. :)

:pccoffee:  Hey there 60s/wannabes/Susan. Looks like the impact of Dorian is finally getting to us here. We're far enough north and far enough inland that it will just end up being a mildly inclement day, possibly with that weird hurricane color sky.

The garage finally has doors and HVAC! Just in time for not needing it. Now comes our part in the project; painting, hanging shelves, etc. I had a fine time with the Cat 6 ethernet cable we ran; come to find out that Cat 6 is just a *wee* bit different than the Cat 5e stuff I'm used to, and so it helps to use Cat 6 cable ends. Wish I'd have figured that out before wasting a couple of hours trying to make my old cable ends work! o_O But now we have nice strong WiFi signal out there.

Speaking of which, did you know that garage door openers use WiFi? And that some of them wirelessly connect with the light units that turn on/off with operation of the door? Well they do. Just download an app and you can see the status of your garage doors from a thousand miles away. Open and close them too. And of course a garage must have WiFi light switches. You know, so that you can turn the outside lights on and off remotely per custom schedule, or so you can say "Alexa turn on the garage outside lights". For some people :anonymous: these have become necessities.

No kidding! We bought outside lights for next to the side door. LED of course, just about everything is these days. The LED is built into the unit, not replaceable. If it is defective or goes wonky -- we've had a couple of LEDs do that already -- the whole unit has to be replaced.

Seems like everything is disposals these days.
Blower motor on the Home HVAC went. Drive across town after yanking it out, to have it rebuilt. WWII Marine who owns the shop, laughed and tossed it in the trash can as he mumbled......
    Chinese junk, not worth rebuilding.

Aluminum was used in house wiring, and then had major issues. So, they quit doing that.
My parents lived in a house for while that had aluminum wiring, in Texas, in the '70s.

It's strange that they have issues with it in the houses, and only use copper, but when I installed a new 200amp service in my house in 2000 the main service feed cable from the power company line to my breaker panel was aluminium. I asked about copper but I was told they only used aluminum. go figure.

Had a house with aluminum wiring , was told the aluminum would heat up under load, expanding, and cool when not under load, contracting. This would in turn loosen connections.

I pig tailed every outlet and switch to copper.

Cleaning up after Dorian. Roof leaked in 5 rooms & stairwell. Even tp got soaked in bathroom. No power loss. Neighbor's metal roofs were flapping in 80 mph winds.

At our shop the back fence was blown over & took the Rubbermaid shed with it. The RR tracks were blocked with trees. Lots of mature oak trees down around town.

Lots of usual flooding. All in all a typical hurricane but nothing like Hugo 30 years ago.

Just glad you and yours are safe. As much of a PITA it is everything can be repaired or replaced but friends and especially family can't be replaced. Be safe.

A lightning caused fire I believe has gone from 2,000 acres yesterday or this afternoon, to over 17,000 acres now. Fire is 30 miles maybe as the crow flies from me, moving east to southeast, northeast of me. Big smoke this afternoon in that direction. Dry and warm here.
