Why not ask the dog to clean his own shit? Eats for free, right?

Good plan! Keep the pack animals away from their pack. Give it to the pound when it bites people and is untrainable. It's like a plastic flamingo that barks constantly between shits!

Since our daughter was born 2yrs ago I pretty much stopped taking him on short trips around town, but I still find a shit ton of fur in the truck all the time.

I’ll try this next time I clean the interior.

Now if we could only keep control of the fur in the house. Good grief.

Furminate 2-3x a week, doesn’t slow down the fur production one bit.

    Yeah... But that happy grin!

I brush mine twice a week, or every day during his moult.

Between that, a modded af Roomba, and hardwood floors, the 2yo that sometimes hangs out here has 100 other problems, but the monkey butt's fur isn't one of them.

If you have wall-to-wall though, I feel your pain. It's impossible to clean that.

Old farm house built in 1948, so very sectioned off...hardwoods throughout though, so it's quick work to vacuum every other day...it just gets old after a while.

More info on this modded roomba?

    I drive a Miata.

I too want to know about the modded roomba. Does it have a lightbar?

I have the Neato D7, run it twice a day. Its reduced my running the regular vacuum from twice a week to once a month. It could use some modding though.

No lightbar, but it has real bearings, my firmware including onboard web server with status/mode selection, an NTSC pan/tilt/zooooom camera, a brushless vaccuum motor, and 3s lithium power pack. The stock drive motors run at +10% voltage to compensate a bit for 500% greater suction.

TODO: vary the vaccuum motor speed based on avg sound level at the stock piezo 'dirt sensor'.

It does a surprisingly good job. Most robovacs have similar mods documented in their respective forums. Some of those work, others, well...

kind of a pain in the ass and a slow process but use nitrile gloves and wet the finger tips and kind of rake them toward you... works pretty well in my experience

German Shepherd, corgi/pit bull mix. She likes to stand with her with her front paws up on the centre console, and her short hair gets woven into the fabric on the sides of the front seat. Also a chow/ border collie mix. Her coat never stinks, and she hardly sheds at all. She does fart occasionally, so not quite perfect. Pretty damn close though. We do 6 or 7 long distance road trips a year. I've found a rubber dish glove keeps the hair level manageable between vacuumings. Cheap, and doesn’t take up much space.

You’d find yourself riding in the box, before I’d put any of my dogs back there.

a few ideas, that I found that work:
    1) a local car wash vacuum is way suckier then a shop vac depending on the model and size you have.
    2) a silicone dog grooming mitt seems to work like grooming your dog, but grooming you car
    3) a wet rag works great as a final step.
