Spent a lot of time there in the 80s! Nothing beats a base hobby shop. You see the most interesting things being done in a lot of cases by people that have no business doing it. I always wondered why there isn't a civilian equivalent. I'm guessing the liability would be too much. A sailor that drops a motor on his foot just ends up going before the old man as opposed to having an ambulance chaser waiting to get paid.

They're popping up. I know of two in my area.

A person that I used to work with had that idea, but never executed it.

 

Do it somewhere where the civies are allowed in and you’ll get a bite. I’d do it if I could. It really is a shame there isn’t such a place in public, unless someone offers their garage or something.

There are only a limited number of members here that can get on base and I'm not sure how many have experience with an install. My advice would be to get them assembled at the hobby shop and then do the actual install elsewhere.

 

We had one of those at Ft Campbell back in the mid '80s.
One of my roommates worked at the company motor-pool, which also helped a lot.

 

Actually posted there. No bite. Good idea might save more if it takes longer than expected. It's 10 bucks per hour for the bay with lifts

Glad my days of standing watch and the f'ing idiots that thought 3 section duty was a great moral booster. Hope you find someone to help out. If you make it out to Mayport, I'll gladly help out.
