I’m not talking about me. I did research it the truck heavily before purchasing. I drove multiple Tacoma’s, and the area around the dealership is apparently just not conducive to getting it to do the howl. I was referring to the multitude of people buying these and the “record sales” that you seem to think means it’s the best truck ever

2019, DCSB OR at 1450 miles. Confirmed diff is howling at similar speeds to everyone else here. Swore I heard it at around 1200 but wasn't 100% sure until today driving into work. Regardless, this thread seems to be fairly confidence its not an issue. I'll mention it at my 5k service, but don't particularly feel the need to go in ASAP.

Mine didn't make the noise until around 2k miles in....I test drove 3 other trucks before settling on the one I bought. I was pretty thorough on the test.

if had done any research before buying the truck you should have know that the Honda Ridgeline was rated #1 in compact trucks, followed by #2 Ford Ranger why would you buy the #3 rated truck, it sounds like you didn't do your homework and are saying the dog ate it. its your fault for buying the truck for whatever the faults are because you haven't done due diligence before buying it, your entitled to nothing from Toyota corp. because its 100% your fault for buying it.

    *You're.

So by your logic. Lets say you buy a Honda Civic. 5k miles later, said Honda Civic EXPLODES AND KILLS YOUR DOG IN THE BACK SEAT! Holy shit!

That consumer should walk away thinking "well shit, I didn't do enough research I guess little Fido's death was my fault, and Honda doesn't owe me shit"

Also FYI, the link you referenced here actually lists a significantly higher tacoma score in reliability than the ranger and ridgeline. Soooooooooooooooo....

Dude, never mind this guy. You're absolutely being trolled and wasting energy on it.

I've had the diff howl for almost 4 years now, no issues other than the annoyance. I agree it shouldn't be there, and the fact that Toyota issued a TSB for SOME trucks to mask it shows that's as far as they're willing to go insofar as a fix. For the record, my truck DID NOT do it when new either.

    Have a good one :)

LOL my 2nd gen whined alot louder than my 3rd gen. Atleast toyota replaced the t-case, wheel bearings, then finally the diff at 50,000 miles. then it stopped whining. then a month later it was totalled...

I think mine just started doing this. The sound is not consistent at 50+MPH though, it seems to happen anytime I am slightly accelerating up an incline. Sounds like a weird harmonic noise coming from the rear.

Seriously. Mine took almost 3k to start howling. Also have 43k on the truck now howls a little less. Still there though.

I also agree that guy is trolling.

Probably had a shitty childhood. Parents who didn’t love him enough. Really not worth the effort.

Well, I just got back from the dealership after asking them to check out my noisy fuel pump....here are the as expected results. The vehicle is operating as it should be, do not attempt repairs at this time.

on a positive note, they are going to fix the dent they put in my hood. On a more negative note my service advisor went the hospital with chest pains....no I didn't berate him. He was pre-stressed from having 24 appointments when he only asks for 15 in a day.

They replaced mine after the 2nd or 3rd visit. it's been perfect now for the past year or two.

The harmless-but-annoying harmonic sound at certain speeds when feathering the throttle is a result of slightly imperfect shimming of the ring/pinion backlash. See this Tundra forum post

You would think they could tighten up the specs or Qc on this without much issue.
