old thread i know, but did you have any issues with the bottom of the bumper hitting the bottom of the radiator? i can't get mine to slide back far enough because of the bumper and radiator hitting.

I did. You need to swap out the radiator if you have an auto 3.4l 4x4. I confirmed with All-Pro back when it happened to me. (Mine was installed in the Spring)

Are you talking about the reinforcement bar? You have to remove that. Send a picture so we know what your issue is.

As for the radiator, you will need a shorter one. I got their Allpro Apex plate bumper and it fit fine even with the valance part. Now if you want to bolt the Allpro skids on you’ll run into clearance issue but is still do able.

I ended up getting a Champion radiator to solve my clearance issue with bolting on the Allpro skids. However you still can run my setup with the stock radiator.

Having a Auto V6 4x4 we have the tallest radiator because the bottom part is the transmission cooler.

    hi TacoJohn,

i think you nailed it on it's head. it is hitting the reinforcement bar, however it looks like even if i remove those the radiator is still too wide to fit inside the bumper.

any chance you have a part number for the champion radiator you purchased? did you end up going with an external transmission cooler with the champion radiator?

That's definitely weird. Only thing I can think is it was designed for a 5 speed or the 4cyl, which have smaller radiators and don't stick down as far. First I've heard of that. Typically the main thing that changes with the smaller radiators is the skit plate design, rather than the entire bumper...

Here's what the clearances on my CBI bumper look like:

Not the greatest pic, but the edge of the bumper is at least an inch or two in front of the rad.

Here’s the Champion Radiator. It has the transmission built in.
    https://www.championradiators.com/Toyota-Tacoma-Radiator-1995-2004

If you want/need extra cooler most of us use the Hayden 678 transmission cooler. You can probably find it cheaper but the link is for reference.

You have to trim the bottom portion of your grill if you want to fit that winch.

Have you already cut off the “triangle” tab from your front bumper mounts?

Has your Tacoma ever been on a front end accident? It looks like that Allpro bumper should fit the stock radiator. Two possibilities, your front end/radiator is a little tweak which throws off the alignment or somehow Allpro made that front bumper valance part too narrow to fit the radiator. You might want to give them a call, you can call Trail Gear because they are Allpro now.

When I first got my Allpro rear bumper I had to bring it back to them because they welded the mounting brackets a centimeter off and It couldn’t slide it into the frame. Not saying this is the case with yours but it’s worth it to call them.

There’s a some people on this forum that have installed that same bumper. Search for their thread and see how they installed theirs.

Thanks everyone for your help! sounds like i need to purchase a different radiator. i called all pro earlier to confirmed but they were slammed so gonna call back in a bit.

I did cut off those triangle tabs, and I don't believe the tacoma has ever been in an accident. everything looks straight and crease free.

I'll provide an update once I talk to all pro and get this thing installed incase anyone in the future runs into the same issue.

Shit, and I thought I had to do a bunch of "extra" work on my CBI bumper with the washer relocation and the turn signals. My skid plates are turning into a bunch of extra work, too, but that's completely my own fault.

Yeah, just looked up the instructions here: You do indeed need the 4cyl radiator.

Those are instructions for 98-00. The front bumper frame is a little different from what I understand. I got those brackets for 98-00 installation too when I got my Apex bumper but didn’t need to use them or do all that modifications. 01-04 shouldn’t need all that modification beside the “triangle” tab cut. Once that is done it should be pretty straight forward.

The end position of the bumper is the same for any year truck, and would have the same interference issues with the larger radiator. The cutting of the frame is just because the newer trucks you can unbolt that piece.
