Manual Transmission clunking in neutral going over bumps

I’ve had three manual Tacoma’s and they’ve all done this. I just stay in gear over speed bumps.

 

My 17 trd off road used to do this. There is a tsb out for a howl noise, at 30 to 50 specific to manual transmission. (Not rear end howl). I think they put some dampers on transmission or exhaust. Mine sounded like a bell clanking over bumps. Tsb fixed it.
No more clanking. If you search for the howl noise and manual trans on forum you will find tsb. Just describe the symptoms in tsb and dont mention internet they should fix it for you. I did have howl noise and was pleased that tsb fixed clanking noise which was a bonus. I will look for my paperwork for tsb#

 

Just got mine on. Clunking can still be heard sometimes but is greatly reduced in frequency and harshness. Running 5 psi now w.o load. I can't recommend these bags enough if you tow or load dirt bikes or motorcycles.

 

It's a truck. Get some real tires, roll the window down, turn the radio up, and stop worrying about all the noises that come from it. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

 

Funny. People comment on the clutch chatter in my truck like it's a good thing. Your truck is fine, you're reading too much TW.

 

Did you ever find the tsb #? Mine is doing this

 

Just going to assume its normal. I hear clunks from 1st to 2nd gear as well at times, most definitely when shifting at lower RPM.

 

I figure the clunk is normal even my 87 does that. I have a howl in neutral with foot off the clutch pedal and it gets louder before road noise takes over when accelerating. Sounds like it's coming from the front of the truck. Its going in next week to be looked at.

 

I found you have to do very smooth and slow release on the clutch pedal to get rid of the clunking a lot of times . I blame it on the clutch fluid accumulator. I kind of learned to live with it but would like to remove in the future.

85% of the time are perfect shifts tho

 

Imma test that out, but yea other than that smooth shifting.

 

This tranny is buttery smooth compared to 5 previous MTs ive had. Love it.
