That looks like a Del Rio grill guard. I have one on my 97 K1500, but it's styled different, and 22 or so years old. But I know the guy still makes them out there. They're tough as hell. They outfitted all the border patrol ram chargers with them back in the day. All the ranchers out there use them too and swear by them. I thought about one for the taco but didn't care for the style they used for it.

Yeah, they were literally everywhere out there. But they are a great guard. When I was in the FD out there we made an accident. An older couple driving a suburban pulled out in front of a lady driving an F250 with one of those guards. She T-boned them at highway speeds, and the couple died. She was ok, and walking around. The F250 looked fine to the eye, and the guard didn't even have much damage. The only real clue her truck had been in an accident was that none of the doors would open. I guess the cab shifted slightly, but enough to jam them all. Pretty weird. I know several people who ran them, and have hit deer at highway speeds with 0 damage. They say, just square up the deer and you're good. lol Catch em on the corner and they'll wrap around and damage the side of the truck. Needless to say, it was the first thing I did when I bought that truck in 97.

I like that bumper, way back in the day had a 92 Z71 I put a ranchhand bumper on it that thing was stout. Mine looked identical to this one but had a bracket lift and 35s.
    I miss that truck.

Had one on my old Cherokee. Pulled it off my buddy’s border patrol Jeep. Weighed about 150 lbs.

6” channel beam for the base plate and 1/4” mounts. Definitely beast mode.

I also ride too. There's decently long paved trail closer to North Houston where you can either start at John Pundt Park off Cypresswood or you can start farther back at Dennis Johnston off Rayord and it'll take you all the way down to IAH / Deerbrook area just past Jesse Jones Park. It's a fairly long. Roughly 20+ miles round trip! It's probably about a 2-3 hour bike ride round trip including a decent stop at Jesse H Jones before riding back. If any of y'all wanna ride that up, let me know!

My oldest daughter drives my 97 now, and I fear I'll never get it back. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get it back. I just get to change the oils etc now. She's been driving it since she was 16, and loves it. It's the truck I brough her home from the hospital in, when she was born. So, I guess it's as it should be.

For damn sure. Many of the guys I worked with that had them and grew up out there have done it many times. Only damage I saw was on the old diesel GM's of that year.. the guy had some expanded metal vents for them built into the front of the plate, and the owner showed me a dent in the expanded metal and said it was the only damage he's gotten from several deer strikes.

Yep, they're stout. I went to the builder and had mine custom made. extended 2-3" (I forget) from the normal config, and had the top and sides done in diamond plate vs the smooth plate. Total cost for the whole guard, in 97, 300 bucks, installed. When i called several years ago about the taco, I think it was 675 or so.

Not sure, both were very well done. In a sea of stock, they stood up and said NoMore!

Dang! Now I really wish I had kept my old Tacoma. It was the one that I brought my son home in, from the hospital. I was considering keeping it for him when he turns 16. I sold it though. He did get to drive it once before I sold it. So, I can say that he drove the truck in which I brought him home.

Ya know. I called them last week to ask about the OHV sticker. The guy on the phone was really rude. He said they don't have them anymore either. Based on the rudeness, I won't even stop by to check them out.
