Rear High Clearance Bumper w/ Hitch Bike Rack

Does anyone have a high clearance bumper with a hitch rack? Wondering what configurations allow for opening the tailgate with the rack on. Currently have a Thule T2 and the tailgate just clears the release that allows you to lower the rack. Thinking about going with Relentless Fabrication. Thoughts?

 

This doesn’t help you at all but I have seen sportmobile guys build them into the swingout. I highly doubt you would want to do more then two bikes that way.

 

Yeah, I've seen a couple on the swingout, my buddy just had one built for his Land Cruiser, not sure I want to go the swingout route as my 33" spare fits fine underneath the truck.

 

Just curious, are you planning on using the t2 bike rack while on a dirt trail? Went into the maze last year. One of the rigs in my group had a modified rear bumper on a Jeep that had a t2 on it hauling a nice full suspension bike. Into the trip both the bike and rack suffered damage from just slowly bouncing around. The rear skewer worked itself out on the bike. Bolts missing on the rack.

 

No, not planning on using the rack while doing any serious wheeling. Just looking for a bumper that will do double duty protecting the rig, giving me more clearance and hauling bikes. I camp a bunch to ride and it's nice to be able to pull the tailgate down with the rack in the upright position so I don't have to worry about scratching the tailgate everytime I drop the gate.

 

Did you ever find a solution. My tailgate hits the rack when lowered
