That's a fact. If the Cascadia ever cuts loose off the coast of Ory-gone, were screwed. It can happen pretty much anywhere. Not to mention, I live close to the Newberry caldera, a volcano ranked as most likely to blow. Whatev. At least its a shield volcano that just pukes instead of blowing sky high.

Most of society has no idea or how to handle a major catastrophe. There is nothing wrong with trying to prepare, water, food, fuel, solar, ammo, first aid, maps, bugout gear, dogs and our 4x4s. I can book in 10 minutes if needed. When society collapses, there will be those who will want what you have. Be prepared for at least 3 to 5 days. Good luck my TW friends.

I thought it was worth noting from the article that past criticism of the hypothesis mentioned a lack of visual evidence of faults or ruptures (not much in the way of connecting the different seismic dots). One of the USGS's recent seismic development maps shows a pretty distinct 30 mile long surface rupture line thought to have been created after the M7.1 quake, running NW from about Trona to Coso Basin. Technology's come a long way.

The 6.4 and 7.1 has created 10k aftershocks since the 7.1 hit and a record of 1800 aftershocks in just one day

It could be the major stressor has been relieved since the two big ones, and it's settling down. :notsure: It could go either way.

This is wild a 3.6 magnitude aftershock hit at 1242:15 14km SSW of Searles Valley then no more than 16 seconds later another 2.7 aftershock hit the exact same location and both at the same depth of 2.5km deep

this is going to go on for years no? I remember people leaving big bear because they got tired of aftershocks 6months later.

I would expect that the record aftershocks has more to do with technology and equipment then anything else.

I know some of guy's don't like his channel but he did put out a warning a few days prior to the July 4th and 5th earthquakes

Now he's just issued another warning for the Searles Valley area for a 5.5 or larger earthquake by tomorrow

Skip to 15:10 into the video .....

They will soon start to subside then most of us will go on with our lives and priorities will change. The emergency supplies will get moved out of the way for more important things.

I myself kinda point to me and say hey stupid why did you move to Santa Clarita that was cutoff from LA when the Northridge quake happened?

Well that one was 25 years ago and things were rebuilt since then. It is a great place to live except the traffic has gotten increasingly bad since I moved here.

My house built in 1994 (the foundation before the quake) has some pretty significant cracks in the slab found when I replaced the carpet. It is structurally fine though.

I can only hope the next large one here happens after I retire so I don't have to worry about the traffic nightmares that others had to deal with for months after that one.

From what I have looked at you haven't had any over the 3 range this week so hopefully all those small ones are just releasing the energy for a long time to come.

This is in just the last day , notice the line of earthquakes heading North back up the Owens Valley from the Garlock fault . These are all in the low to mid 3 magnitude range . Not shown on this map are the hundreds of micro quakes

There is no doubt that you will keep feeling them for a while. I have deep in my memory how I would feel and hear the low bass rembelling of the aftershocks on all the houses and apartments far before it would get to where I was. It's something you can never forget.

I was suggesting since you arn't getting anymore 4+ aftershocks the worst may be over.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – An underwater earthquake with an initial 5.9 magnitude has struck off the southern Oregon coast.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Thursday that no tsunami is expected from the quake, which happened about 180 miles from land at a depth of 7 miles.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The larger quake happened around 8 a.m. in the same area where a 6.3-magnitude temblor struck on Aug. 29, less than a week ago. The larger quake Thursday was preceded by one with an initial 3.8 magnitude.
