Those off shore quakes are really weird. Every time I looked out at the pool sloshing water, I'd tell the wife "earthquake somewhere" always off shore from Eureka to Oregon.

Never felt them in the bay area but the pool did.

I was in Ridgecrest for the 6.4 and 7.1, essentially right on top off it. Shit was no joke. I was in an upstairs office for the 6.4 and it threw my 6'1 200lb ass into the wall like it was nothing. Was home for the 7.1 I thought my house was going to collapse. Absolutely crazy. The ground never stopped moving for about an hour after that. So much that my roommate got seasick while we were sitting in the front lawn. Felt like I was on a fishing boat or dock the rest of the night.

    Our wake up call:
When Loma Prierta hit the bay area, I had just got home and took the birds (two macaws and a yellow nape) out of their cages and put them on the perches, 5 cats around my feet and a boxer - BOOM - animals did not detect it coming - power out. One macaw broke a blood feather and was panicking, trying to find a pair of pliers and the quick stop to pull it and stop the bleeding. After shock.... Wife was at work and the phones were out so she could not get a hold of me, we were house/pet sitting a neurotic woman's cats. Somehow she got thru from Florida, all they saw was SF going up in flames, bridge collapse.

We were going to go camping the next weekend so I had all the gear out and was checking it over - ended up camping in the back yard and using the stove and lantern.

We now have the tear drop - gets readied the day we come back from camping. Has 1 week of our food, dog and cat's food (even though they don't go camping), top off the propane on the way home. Last time we tested our preparedness it took 20 minutes to head out.

We were more concerned about the Taboose fire than any earthquake. Might change our attitude when we are finished moving next weekend.

I remember laying on the floor of my apartment in Tokyo and feeling little shaking every couple minutes, thought was trucks but there really wasn't any traffic at all by my place. Found out that there is an earthquake every minute...

Yep the formation of a new subduction zone or continental plate called Walker lane fault zone . This new fault is from Pyramid lake Nevada south to the Baja peninsula

They say if the fault ruptures the gulf of Calif will extend north to just south of Reno Nv
