This might explain why the engineers at toyota put it where it was with the liners you removed.

The whole argument of why this works is because your cabin air draws from the same location too. So if it were to be a potential problem, your feet would be getting soaked all the time, but I guess the cowl area just doesn’t get very wet.

There’s a bunch of people that have done this mod and only one that I’m aware of had any problem, and he was bombing through a water hole.

Yeah with the liners it’s pretty safe, but no way I’d run it open to the world. I was under there looking at it today, and I may have to do a little tubbing in there to fully clear these things.

That’s what separates me from a lot of other people on here. I’ll put in the work to make it fit and never, ever, rub. Then I won’t be like David who can’t back out of a parking space without hitting his cab mount.

Even better, I’ll do 33s up front so I don’t rub, and do 37s in the rear for maximum diff clearance. Then gear my differentials accordingly.

The same top secret anti-water technology that prevents it going into your HVAC system, which also pulls air from the same area.

Since no one else was helpful I'll try and be.
See the lip inside the cowl in Randy's pic that goes to the HVAC it's raised up. Then the cowl is sloped towards the outside edges which there are drains located.

You could do that 90, come out of the cowl and add the prefilter cap.

If I could do that I would.

What 34s tires and wheels (diameter, backspace) are you running now?

    295/70r17 cooper mtp. They’re on 17x7.5 oem tundra/sequoia wheels.

1.25” spacers in front to clear uca. 2” spacers in rear to clear shock relocate.

I forget the offset on the wheel, I think it’s +15mm. They’re a little more aggressive than oem wheels which are around 30/35mm

They really aren't that much bigger than a 33 in reality. Don't know if you've looked at tires and sizes a lot but there is a whole lot of variability. There isn't really a standardization for the measurements. Brands can run big or small in a given size or within their same line.

Even though those MTPs aren't that much bigger than a 285s they do in person look quite a bit larger.

I agree. The 255/80 Nitto is taller than the same size Cooper for instance. I am constantly looking at different tires and see it all the time.

Like you said, depends on the tire. These mtp measure out at 33.46 diameter while most 285s are around 32.6ish. Almost a whole inch bigger than most 285s. I think the very aggressive tread makes them look bigger too.

    Yep
Definitely. On a tire calculator they are a little over 1% bigger but side by side they looked a lot bigger than my duratracs.
