@CedarPark stopped by yesterday to see the swap from Hell.
His rig has really gone through some changes. I’m gonna fix it for him when I win the lottery tonight.

Cant wait to see all of ya'lls rigs in HF.

If possible, I'd like someone to ride in or drive my truck to give me an idea of what condition my stock springs are in. I'm looking at having to probably save money for close to a year before I can afford a full set of 33" tires and a complete suspension kit with UCA. In the mean time, I am thinking about just replacing the shocks, but have no idea if that will help if the springs are bad as I have no idea if my truck currently rides like it is suppose to as I have never driven another first gen to compare. To me, my truck seems extremely harsh over small sharp bumps like rail road tracks and cracks in the road.

The rear leaf springs also seem a bit too flat when empty, but I have seen mixed results online with people saying Toyota leafs normally look flat, but others saying all leaf springs should have a curve.

A friend of mine also said it may be my bushings are warn out, but my steering has zero play or slack in it, so I'm not sure what to think.

Without diving too deep, sounds like your shocks are all blown. Toyota leafs are pretty flat when installed.

You can start with Bilstein 5100 shocks or Old Man Emu Nitrochargers. I'm running the Nitrochargers.

Oh yes, definently the shocks are blown at all 4 corners, been 140k miles since they were last reppaced, but I am wondering if new shocks would smooth out the harshness from the smaller sharper bumps.

I'm not a suspension expert, but I thought it was the springs that determined how smooth the ride is, and shocks just stop the truck from bouncing like an old Cadillac after hitting a bump (which my truck does).

If it just needs new shocks, that would be great until I have the money to get the OME 3" suspension lift kit and bigger tires.

:hattip: Thank y'all kindly. Pulling it Monday hopefully reinstalling Sunday. Truetrac is on the way

:bananadead::bananadead: honestly better now than @ HF. If it broke driving over those little logs it would've broken in 5 minutes there

Shocks control the oscillation of the suspension and wheels, springs support the weight

Much appreciated to you all :D

I tow sometimes and have have on more than a few occasions put a little bit more than the payload rating of 1500lbs into my bed , so know my suspension has taken quit a beating since I got the truck from my aunt.

I like my HD Dakar springs. They're not too expensive and are rated for 680 pounds constant weight added. They are stuff when the rear is empty, but they flex pretty good when off-road.

I was looking at getting the 883s and the standard dakars. I mostly run around empty, so am looking for a good compromise that can still work well with heavy loads but give a decent ride when empty. I figured if the standard dakars are still not enough, I can always do the add a leaf.

Add a leaf adds stiffness, but I've only heard that and not experienced myself as I've never done an add-a-leaf. I'm running 886 front coils, HD Dakar leafs and Nitrocharger shocks all around. The ride was stiffer than factory, but it also rode smoother at the same time. Kinda hard to explain, but it rode better even though it was stiffer.

I didn't add any weight to it until a year after I instated the suspension and I didn't need upper control arms or CMC on 33s (255/85r16) and got nearly 3" of lift.

Good point, @Chris311 why do you feel you use UCAs? If you're having to save that long for a lift you could get something budget friendly and still of decent quality

I beat the crap out of my suspension, too @Chris311

You can do just shocks for $200-400-ish, then rear leafs for $600-ish, then springs for $200-400-ish not including installation of you have to pay for it. You could also get used springs and new shocks to save even more money (unless you spring for rebuildable high-end shocks, but for a daily driver its not necessary)

In several suspension threads I've read through, most people come to the conclusion that longer UCAs will help keep the alignment in spec with a 3" lift. A lot of people that didn't get UCAs at first, eventually ended up getting them later, and say that it's best to go ahead and get them when installing the new suspension kit.

UCAs are expensive for a good quality set, so I am still not decided 100% on getting them or not. But I figure I have a while to save, so I'll have a while to decide.
