    Hey ya’ll!

So I have decided I am going to attempt to fit 35s (315/75/16) on my 2018 Tacoma. I am planning on doing about 2.5” of lift with King shocks or maybe Icons depending on pricing, new UCAs, new leaf springs, a cab mount chop, and of course the notorious 5.29 regear.

Yes, I know it will probably still rub here and there and will require trimming. It will be work, but I am determined to stuff these things, so for those of you who have stuffed 35s I’m happy to hear your input! After watching Last Line of Defense’s YouTube video and talking to a few guys on Instagram I’m pretty positive it’s doable without too much rubbing assuming I go with an aggressive cmc and flatten pinch welds.

I’ve talked to a few people who are running 35s and so far they have sworn by using 16” Stealth Custom F5s with 3.5” Backspacing and -25mm offset. I have been having a hard time finding 16” wheels with 3.5” backspacing, the SCS are pretty much the only ones I’ve seen. These are great classic looking wheels, but I was curious if anyone knew of any other manufacturers who made something with the same specs?

    Thanks for your help fellas!

I actually have scs f5s with 3.5 bs, i already did the re gear to 5.29s, and 315s are going on tuesday.

They are the only wheels I could find with that backspacing and offset.

16s or bust bro! I dig the f5 just wanted to know what other options there were. Let me know how your set up turns out! What all did you do to make room?

I havent done anything to make room yet. If I gotta cut fenders, I gotta cut. It is what it is. I went with f5s because of wheel weight. they are really light, like 19 lbs each.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm running 16x8 with 4.5 backspace rims and 315/75r16 Nankang Mudstar M/T tires on a second gen. In preparation, I cut a little over 2 inches out of my front fenders, cutting flush with my CMC for 33s down by the cab, cut some of my flares in the front by the bottom rear with a box cutter and removed my fender liners to clear for daily driving. I'm still slightly rubbing my cab mount, so i need a really aggressive CMC. It is perfectly adequate for daily driving, but not enough clearance for wheeling off-road.

I hope that helps, but again I'm in a 2nd gen.

Also, with the right alignment, it should be able to limit the amount of cutting. But I also have a full front winch bumpers, so I dont have to trim anything in the front at all. I will rub on the Cab mount, so that is getting pretty aggressively cut up, and that *should* be the only place I rub. But Im prepared to trim the inside fender liner, or at least use heat to mold it, then beat the pinch weld back into the cab.

Also, you need to get rid of those flaps, do that first. Also, with the 3.5 bs, you will get more dirt down the side, so be prepared for it. Its a pretty large undertaking, viewing all that needs to be done. Also, you are going to want after market front bumpstops, so add that to the list.

Right on man thanks! Tbh I have done everything in my power to rip the mudflaps off out on the trails and haven’t been able to lol. But they are definitely coming off for the bigger tires.
I know a lot of guys do bumpstops but I don’t know a thing about them so I’ll have to look into that!

I’m hoping to avoid trimming the fenders, that’s the one thing I’m hesitant to do... we shall see.

I'm on the group of trim as you need, so far it's been cutting the bottom of my front fenders and flares (at the rear by the cab mount) with caster maxed out and 4.5 backspace on 16x8 rims

Once you do one side, the other will be easier. It isnt that big of a deal, unless you fuck it up. Then if you do that, you should just buy glass and then you wont have to worry about it again. I have a snorkel right now, and dont want to lose it, or id have glass already. But if the snorkel ends up damaging my fender, from rust or impact, then glass it is. Just got to budget for this shit man lol

Edited to add. You are about to embark on a very expensive adventure into the still relatively unknown world of 35s on 3rd gens. Every ones truck is different regardless of trim. So planning on spending the extra close to a g on glass isnt even a big deal compared to gears, tires/wheels/ suspension that you are about to jump into

Your most likely going to need to trim the fenders if you hit trails. Street driving probably ok but when you stuff them or try to you will know. The first cut is the hardest. After that’s its easy. 3rd gens do have a not more room bit I expect you will got the upper wheel wells at full compression and possibly the firewall area. I relocated my cab mount so it’s not hitting that but still hits the fender wall when I’m wheeling it. Regular driving is fine. Also some good castor is needed. I’m at 4.5-5 now with 3.5 BS SCS as well. It’s a mean looking setup but man does it take a lot of work and keeps needing work. I may go to a taller tire but not as wide next time but I really do like the aggressiveness of it.

Best of luck! You know what you signed up for just take some patience to get it right. You will also want to look at some brake upgrades pushing 35+ esp E range.

FN five star you can get with 3.5” BS...not sure if they are back in stock yet or not though.

I have the Konig Type-X on 4.5” BS and put on 1.25” spidertrax spacers.

Of course you could always get a 4.5” BS wheel and run 1” BORA spacers to get to 3.5” backspacing

I took the plunge last weekend. To do it right I believe you must trim the fenders which kind of makes a snorkel a must because you loose the liners. I trimmed fenders, installed a snorkel and did a body mount relocate kit. Running 4.75bs w/ 1.25 Spidertrax spacers = 3.5 bs. Modified Bushwackers to be installed next week. Loving the 35's so far.

Yeah see I don’t mind cutting a little, it’s the whole fender re-profile that I’m not a fan of.

I am going to try and avoid spacers. I really do like the look of the f5s so I should be able to do those for the proper backspacing. It’s all this collateral trimming and work you get with 35s that gets intimidating. Did you guys just leave your fender liners open or is there something that can be done to replace them/fill it in?

I removed mine completely and rock-guarded everything black. They serve no real purpose other then covering the stock air intake which is not a problem now with the snorkel
