Can always try different type of yogurt if that's what you want to stick to. Eg Greek or goat milk. Do you train on an otherwise empty stomach? The only time I get reflux is when there's not enough food in my belly.

I do greek yogurt and thats about all I care for.

    I typically eat at 8a, 11:30a, 2:30p, 6:30p

The 2:30p is before the gym.

I used to think it was an empty stomach but its almost like dairy makes it worse. If I eat an apple or nuts I have less issues.

I’m a big yogurt fan. My favorite is fage 2% Greek. Taste and texture are the best I have found. It’s very low in carbs and fat. Not that I am against carbs and fat, I just prefer to be able to add things to the yogurt to get them.

I eat this meal almost every day. I just adjust the portions of the add-ins to meet whatever nutrient goals I’m looking for. It’s awesome. Tastes like a dessert and is super filling.

    Fage yogurt
    Oats
    Almonds
    Berries
    Sweetener of some sort

I do the triple zero except I wish it was not zero fat. I don’t like plain yogurt at all and want something flavored that doesn’t have as much added sugar as ice cream. Its hard to find a good flavor with fat but no added sugar.

I'd check out the 5% Fage then. It's waaaaaaay better then triple zero, IMO.

I may need to grab a few plain. I just don’t like eating plain day after day.

Maybe I just need to be more inventive.
Do you do sliced almonds in your yogurt?

    Whole.

It’s far from plain by the time I add I’m nuts and berries. I usually keep a big bad of mixed frozen berries on hand so they keep easy. Easy way to get some fiber in too.

Yeaaa I’m a fan of the triple zero. Usually put some nature valley granola in it for breakfast.

So guys... I think I need to explore the idea of giving up alcohol.

I hung out with my bro yesterday hitting a few local breweries. End of the day we brought out a few growlers to enjoy the nice evening outside.

A couple more brews in my bro is like “Hey! How would you like to do a 50 mile ultra marathon in 2021?!”

And I was like “Fuck yes! Lets do it! YOLO!”

    Ragrets.

22 months to prepare. Thats going to fly by
Full marathon next year will have to set the stage for time goals and training.

Shit will get real to prepare. 50-80 mile training weeks.

Balancing lifting along with that is going to be darn near impossible. Hopefully I can try out some full body routines so I only need to lift 2 days per week. If anyone knows any let me know.

I’m going to start following his podcasts. Physique-wise he has really been able to balance running and lifting better than anyone I have seen.

Don't know your fitness history but...

You only need to lift 1 day a week to maintain your muscle strength. if your muscles do shrink somewhat, that is actually a benefit since you are carrying that for 50+ miles. For food check out the Feed Zone Cookbook and Feed Zone Portables. If you take the time to read them (the first few chapters) your knowledge of endurance fueling will change dramatically. For anyone looking for just great tasting easy to prepare food the Feed Zone stuff is key. Everything we have made out of them has been fantastic. This is a must for your training program.

If you are over 50 get the Fast After 50 by Joe Friel. If you are under 50 you still need to get it to understand what happens to your body as you age and how to maintain your fitness.

    Pseudo Cred...
I used to Mtn bike race at the expert level and have done Seattle to Portland bike ride in a day (204 miles) and was a pacer for my brother when he did the Wasatch Front 100 (100 mile trail run).

    My two cents.

PS: Alcohol is probably out for a while. it will affect your training for 2-3 days after consuming. Not what you want to stay on schedule.

I will check out that book. Thanks for the reccomendation.

I am 28 but my brother is 44 so I’ll get him the over 50 book haha

Since you are an endurance biker. My husband is not an endurance runner but enjoys biking. A few days after the ultra run there is a 100 mile mountain bike he may be interested in. Hed be able to support me through my race then I could support him with his.

Do you think a 100 mile bike race is doable for a novice? He still has 22 months to prep like I do. We probably need to figure out some races to do in the meantime.

    Thanks for the recommendations!

I think it is doable since you have almost two years. But you need a schedule and stick closely to it. it might be worth paying for a personal trainer. The 100 mile mountain bike might depend on the course. If you live in Florida and are contemplating the Leadville 100 in Colorado then it might be a stretch.. if it is more tame than that, it will be tough but doable. My wife and I did a 50 mile mtn bike ride in the mountains of North Idaho about 5 years ago. About 20 mile climb up. Long slow grind over broken shale in spots. It was tough and we had high end carbon fiber full suspension bikes. Way more difficult than a 50 mile road ride.

It will be the Leadville 100.

We live at sea level buy used to live at 7,000ft. The altitude is going to be a challenge. Leadville 50 goes from 10,000 to 12,000 a few times. I need to see how hardcore the bike is.

You are right about a schedule. Its almost two years but thats going to come and go so quickly.
I have a half next month. That will set the pace for a half I have with family early next year, which will set the pace for Chicago Marathon training in Oct then holy shit 8 months prep for the 50.

I feel like I’m already behind :goingcrazy:
