Was looking at an '02 Sequoia today at the junkyard and noticed it has rear discs and not drums.

Wondering if anyone has ever swapped one of these axles to a 1st gen Tacoma?

Mine's a 2003 dbl cab TRD 4wd. As far as I know from trying to find a replacement wheel some months ago, the wheels on this model have a zero (maybe 10) offset because they share the same rear axle as the Tundra and the Sequoia.

Seems to me it should 'probably' bolt right up. Might have to swap the guts from the rear end.

I would just rather have disc brakes on the rear as well as the front....

Do you have long travel in the front? I believe those axels are significantly wider than Tacoma axels.

First issue is that its wider. 2nd issue is that Sequoia's had coils in the back instead of leafs, so it would be quite a job to make that work.

I did notice that. Grinders and welders can fix that.

A lot of work just for some brakes that I doubt youll even notice a difference with while driving.

ABS wont work, you'd need a custom drive shaft, its likely a different ratio than the front axle, you'd need to create lateral arms/pan hard etc, rear parking brake cables will have to be custom, and custom make springs and perches. Axle width would be huge and you'd have to run 4" spacers on the front.

People constantly post about disc brake conversions on here, but its very rare someone does it, and it has little benefit.

I think that your on the right track then. are you going to do spring under or link it??

Do you have abs? I guess you can delete it and run a proportional valve. Post up picks. I wonder if their cheeper than a tundy axel

Let's back track; if you have the ability to cut/grind/weld, there's a cheap, bolt-on disc brake kit available for our trucks. Only requires minor cutting, but the rest is bolt on.

With that being said, 3 link rear o_O

If you are looking at axle swaps, you should check out the 93-97? FJ80 axles. It's a full float axle, disc brakes, 9.5" ring gear, and some have elockers. It's 3" wider than the stock axle, but a set of 1.5" wheel spacers upfront match it perfect.

I've been running this setup since 2013 and love it.

You will need to cut all the brackets off and weld spring perches on.... I got all my parts from ruff stuff.

Post pictures of this rear axle in your Tacoma. It’s offset rear pumpkin won’t line up with out drivetrain. The front can be swapped in for a sas but not the rear.

Yeah, the diff is off set to the right, but it's not a deal breaker.. I ended up going with a single piece driveshaft to ditch the center support bearing.
