Dunno, man, my guess is most people here don’t “wheel” hard enough to have the trail tear it off. As for me, I hope this thread lives long enough for those closeted ecomodders on TW to show off their homemade F150 chinstraps that eke out an extra 3/10ths of an MPG at 55mph!

OP—there are minor sound and high-speed handling and MPG improvements observed with the air dam. Several threads have covered this. But the removal looks better to some people. You do what works for you.

Meh, I'll keep mine on, to separate myself from the masses that have the off-road version then never actually take it off road.

Mine went up after removal of the air dam, but I also replaced the flimsy foil skid with the larger aluminum TRD skid.

The new skid channels air under the front end better than the dammed foil did.

1.2 MPG so far. Only 40k miles left to break-even, and it looks really good.

I took it off, it looks okay, no noticable difference in sound. Might add a TRD pro skid plate or have my neighbor powderoat my factory plate it silver.

I was considering adding a TRD PRO skid plate, however don't like how the color (what is it an off-white, beige?) looks with my Silver Sky body color. I've seen where some here have painted them black, however I doubt the black would last long before chipping/peeling. Too bad Toyota doesn't offer the TRD Pro skid plate in black. I bet they would sell quite a few of them.

I took mine off my 2019 then a few weeks later put it back on. Seeing your post prompted me to take it off for good. Chinless is a much better look.

The dam makes the truck look like the nose is bent under when viewed from the side.

Funny thing is, you get the same estimated gas mileage as an Off-Road model without the valance, as you do a Sport with it!

    Like, so many.
It’s the first mod I tell people to do. Now get a tow hook from an OR, paint it red, and bolt that bad boy on!

Wow man. I don’t think that’s really necessary. Dude was just talking about his truck which is pretty much what we all do.

I purchased a new 2016 Tacoma while on vacation passing through Amarillo Tx. Once I arrived in Manitou Springs Co, I pulled out my cheap ratchet set and removed said air dam in the motel parking lot. Drove down the street, seen a large dumpster, tossed it in.

Next was beer and other things...

Unlikely. If so, Toyota would likely have noticed this with their wind tunnel and on-road and track testing and subsequently omitted the dam in lieu of extending the thinner OEM steel brush guard aft across all versions except the Pro.

The pro skid plate does look cool to me too, though, but I’d probably do like a few others on here and cut the dam to fit the Pro Skid if I had it.

And to the other user’s comment about the Sport and Off-Road getting the same MPG, that’s because the EPA estimates are averaged, I believe. Other threads have covered this before. Use fuelly to see how your submodel performs in the real world. It’s not perfect, because people that buy the OR probably drive differently and on different surfaces and routes than those who buy the Sport anyway, but the better fuel economy numbers tend to come with an air dam, street tires, a 4x2, and, for the 2016+ for many, the V6.
