Checking the fluid level seems like the most obvious. It is a pain in the butt to do though. Make sure you follow the procedure and don’t just check cold. The engine must be running.

It’s funny if I say “Toyota says this is normal”, right?

No engine off after it has reached a certain temp and you have to pull the fill plug. If you pull that plug while it's running you'll take a bath in trans fluid.

Sorry, but that is not correct at least for second gen. Trans temp reached engine running so the torque converter and trans cooler is opened up. Remove check plug and there should be a small trickle of fluid while it is running. If you do it with the engine off the. You will be about 2-2.5 quarts low. It holds about 11 total, roughly 8 in the valve body and 3 in the cooler and lines.

The only thing I did differently for this process was after I got tired of trying get into temp mode I gave up and used a infrared thermometer on the pan. It will be about ten degrees different but close enough for me. I tried to get into temp mode and got pissed after multiple fails. That link is a great write up to use. I think it is the same one that posted on Toyota nation below.

Was looking under my truck and found that the u joint busted the retainers on the rear diff. When looking for a new part should I be searching for the driveshaft yoke for the rear driveshaft?

You may need to just go to somewhere like Oliver's driveshaft in Winston-Salem Skippy would recommend them too.
