SPC offer the most adjustment and run a simple ball joint. Those other UCAs have the caster built in but are not adjustable.

The biggest thing is finding someone who actually knows how to align a vehicle. They will slip the cams so your axles shift forward.

SPCs are great but most people have no idea how to adjust them while the others are already set.

    Haha that made me LOL

Got it. Ok so this probably sounds horrible, but SPC definitely isn’t as sexy as a tubular UCA... and that’s kind of a problem. Maybe I’ll get them painted lol.

    Hey Joe,

Are you saying that it’s better to adjust caster and what not on the SPC’s first (not leave the brass caster adjuster at stock setting) and then adjust the factory adjusters for the alignment? Serious question.

Damn, we need some salt life sticker for everyone in this thread. There’s some salty people in here.

I’m with @desertjunkie760. People who claim to fit 315/35/whateverthefuck with minimal mods aren’t clearing throughout the entire suspension cycle, which is cool I guess. These are 295/70r17 which are a full inch shorter and narrower and it took a good bit of work. I was a hair away from fenders/core support at full bump/lock. I will likely need to do some mild tubbing for my 315s that go on in a few days.

So in theory SPC has more adjustment and is better but will require more effort to get the camber set right... which should pay off?

And another helpful tidbit, is I have now done three aggressive cmcs for third gens running 35s. They all still rub a hair just with normal street driving.

So you’re saying to actually fully utilize upgraded suspension, more serious modifications need to be done to fit 315s?

Very helpful. But the rubbing also depends on the alignment and backspacing too right? So in theory I could avoid rubbing with proper backspacing and alignment vs someone who hasn’t adjusted to get the most clearance?

It is of my opinion that if you want to fully take advantage of your suspension and tires, that they should clear throughout the entire suspension motion. Have you looked at 295/75r16? That’s the 16” equivalent of what I have. A little more beef than 285s but less of a headache. These cooper mtp measure in at 33.46 which is almost a full inch taller than some 285s.

Yeah certainly, in theory. But the guy that just left my house this morning had 3° of castor already and not horribly aggressive wheels.

And as I type this I remember he has 285/75r17 which are 34” tires. So 35s would be even worse.

So taking off the coil over and cycling from bump to full drop lock to lock isn’t full suspension cycling? Mine cleared fine.

That’s odd. Are you getting some 5th dimension suspension travel we don’t know about?

Mine cleared without tubbing or cutting the wheel well.

*note. I had super bumps and didn’t factor in the full squish when I did mine. So there was a time when I hit something big at speed they kissed the top wheel well.

Maybe third gens are actually pretty different? The only people having issues here are 2nd gens.

Yes I have considered 295s and still kind of am. But the 35s are a real eye catcher and I’m trying to see if that’s something I’m able to pull off.

Yeah they do look nice for sure. But I know a couple people who have gone 35s and really didn’t like it because it was such a freaking headache.

Having chopped up probably 15 second gens and 15 3rd gens, the wheel wells really aren’t all that different. Not significantly enough to be the difference in clearing 35s and it being rub city. If you’re happy with your set up, that’s really all that matters.

You aren’t doing king of the hammers In your Tacoma. It sounds like you drive 95% on road and some casual off road. 35’s will fit fine with the mods laid out in @JoeCOVA’s thread. You don’t need to turn your truck into a buggy to get them to fit.
