I'm replacing my reverse bulbs in my 98 tacoma and I want led's, haven't quite been able to find or figure out any good options. Anyone have any insight or choices?

I've already looked on how to install the bulbs. I'm wanting to know if someone knows a good led bulb to get to replace the old ones?

Browse superbrightleds.com for the type you need. They post the brightness and dimensions of the bulbs. Find the brightest ones that will fit in your housing. I prefer natural white to cool white for reverse and license plate lights. The cool white is just to harsh for my eyes.

I bought what they had at Advance Auto Parts. Sylvania I think. They are brighter than regular bulbs but the thing that made the biggest difference was lining the tail lights with aluminum duct tape. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes.

Get a T15 socket led bulb, those tend to have higher lumen outputs. If you don't want it as bright just go for any 192, 168, 921, ( <-- perfect size for almost all interior applications) or T10. They all have the same socket size.

I got these and they'll blind you if you're in the way and also got another pair to place in the corner lights to blind everyone lol.

That's a good idea. I had good results repainting mine with silver BBQ paint.

    Sorry for the slow responce.
The first pic is the tail light comparison with bulbs before and after taping them. The second is LED vs bulb with the tape.
To be Honest I couldn't see a big difference between the LED and bulbs for the tail/brake lights, but there was a huge difference between the two for the back up lights. 0112191749a_resized.jpg 0112191749_resized.jpg

The benefit with LEDs for brake lights is they light up instantly whereas incandescants take about 1/4 second to light up. This could make a difference in a panic stop preventing someone from rear ending you.

What I did was: I replaced the stock thee-color glass with red/clear:

    upload_2019-9-9_2-33-55.jpg

swapped reverse light position with blinker and replaced all three bulbs with LED: white for reverse (top), amber for blinker (center) and dual intensity red for stop and tail (bottom):

    upload_2019-9-9_2-35-41.jpg

Then I dumped the plastic divider that was originally around the center bulb. The divider was to block the light from neighboring bulbs (stock clear bulbs) that could illuminate through to other lens. With all three bulbs being different color it is not needed. So the top part of glass being clear the reverse bulb is less restricted giving a bit better illumination. Additional benefit of using top socket for reverse is that top socket reflector is bigger and spreads light better then center socket.

By the way swapping bulb positions was done by swapping connectors at the plug, not sockets :)
