I keep seeing people posting how they are getting their truck for 4K under sticker. Are these with trades? I've been pricing out another truck and they all say the min they can sell for is invoice. Then they want to give me 2K under KBB Trade-in. Does anyone really know how much room there is to play?

It depends. What the dealer says is invoice and what the dealer actually paid Toyota is usually two different things. Also, it depends what manufacturer kickbacks and incentives are available. There are different websites you can go and find the actual bottom line like Consumer Reports.

Consumer Reports, USAA or even Edmunds.com are decent sources for pricing. I got mine for $4k under sticker by working with two dealers' "Internet Departments"... sounds silly, but they run high volume sales with minimal markup (for Toyota, anyway). I was straight-up with them and said I was talking to multiple dealers, give me your best price and that will let me decide.

If I could get kbb fair for my truck and 4k under sticker I would probably pull the trigger. My buddy works for Toyota and keeps saying invoice is the price. He also called me a few days after I looked at a 4runner and said he could knock another 1000, even though it was at the lowest price when I looked lol.

I just have to question these people getting awesome deals if the money is coming from their trades.

X2 on Edmonds.com. Put in the truck you are buying with the options and you will get their True Market Value (TMV) price, which is what others are paying at dealers. You should not pay more than this. And make sure the mats are included in the price, they usually try to scam you for another 170. Roy, KBB is a dealer scam, don't buy into it, it is notoriously low and that is why the dealer pulls it out when people are trading. NADA is a more accurate figure on what your truck is worth.

I got my 2009 OR TR for 26k. Sticker was 31k. Invoice was around 27k. This was a cash deal so mo trade. I second the Internet shopping. Most dealers have an Internet option. Talk to them first through email. Also, NEVER talk to the salesman. Ask for the General mgr. They are usually easier to deal with. Tell them what truck you want and at what price. Tell them you have been talking to other dealers and houbara looking for thier best price. Anytime they ask you what you want to pay, respond "I looking for your best rock-bottom price". Below invoice thier is about 1k in fees the dealer pays to Toyota. One is to keep the truck on the lot and the other is advertising. Dealers usually don't budge on these. But mine did. Also, you have to realize you are looking for a new truck in the beginning of the dealers fonacial year. Last week in august is the only time to buy. Best of luck!

These are where the dealer makes their money. Along with what the finance manager can sell you at the end. Don't let that invoice line fool you.

IMO you shouldn't be paying more than 500 under dealer invoice for a dc or. Your best bet for pricing is at a high volume dealer. They get kickbacks for hitting quotas amongst other things and actually have the room to move. When it comes to financing, work out your own ahead of time, then when they ask you what your rate is, tell them it is 1% lower than you actually have secured. Most times they will come back with a better rate.

Screw that, tell them you're not paying interest. Everyone else is offering 0%, try to back Toyota into that. Obviously you want the Toyota but the dealer doesn't know that, you could just as easily go buy a Chevy for 0% and they need to be competitive.
People getting vehicles way way under invoice could have to do with incentives, kick backs etc or also getting screwed on their trade. If they rape you on your trade, then they can show that they sold you the vehicle a lot cheaper than they actually did. The sale price of a new vehicle doesn't mean anything until you take the trade into account. You need to look at the sale as a whole, what your payment is, interest rate, etc.

you haven't bought many vehicles new have you?

You can certainly ask for 0%, but you'll get laughed out of the office.

If you are smart, you'll calculate the total difference in cost between 2.9% and 0% and then ask for an additional discount in purchase price.

As far as trade, NEVER EVER, let the salesperson make the trade-in offer.

NEVER EVER let the sales manager make the offer.

ALWAYS, talk to the buyer. NEVER take the buyer's first offer.

When i bought my truck, The first offer was WAY low. I said, the minimum that i'll take for my trade is ( $300 more than the most recent NADA sale that i could come up with.) They buyer asked for a few minutes, then came back and said, " I can do that."

It was only about $500 less than private party value and i got my tax credit for just trading it in.

I also ended up getting my truck for right around $1200 below dealer invoice.

I worked out my own financing and skipped all the extra warranty BS.

I'd also recommend using Truecar.com to get a round about pricing goal for your area. I used it and was able to negotiate a little bit better price than they gave.

If that's true you got an awesome deal. Somehow it seems too good though (and I'm not calling you a liar) and if your trade was only worth $300, you basically paid sales tax on the entire amount. I don't know what the salex tax is where you live but in NJ it's 7%. So if you paid $26,838 otd that means the truck was $24959! I don't know how you did it but that's way below invoice, and dealer hold back. Jus sayin':)

According to Edmunds, a 2010 OR TRD stickers for about 31K which is about right. Says invoice is 28,400, which is about 2500 under sticker. TMV is $400 over, or $28,800. I could understand getting $1000 off because of incentives, but I am going with the 1,9% rate.

    Rough Trade-in Nada is $22,175.
    Fair Trade-in KBB is $22,000.

Both rear quarters need some work  It would cost me $500 to go through insurance to maybe recoupe another $1000 on the trade IMO. So..I'd be $500, maybe $1000 ahead at most if I got the truck repaired before the trade. It is a lot of hassel to be out of a vehicle for a week and maybe show up on car fax though.

My buddy is saying he could probably get me 22K on the trade and only get me invoice on the new vehicle (around 28,500).

It's not too bad of a deal seeing how I got 40K on this truck already, gonna need new tires after winter, and it is pretty banged up. For another 7K I get a new truck and lower payment. I'd like to know how I can buy new for 26K instead of 28K and still get my 22K trade. Is that even possible? Or should I just wait till the 2011s get more pleantiful and deal then?

That is freakin low. No trade makes comparisons easier.

How is that even possible? Was $300 on the trade what the car was worth total, or just the difference of what you owed? For example, you owed 10K and they gave you $10,300 for your trade?

I had a 96 accord in rough shape. I did a TMV on it and came up with 300-800 value. I looked at a 2010 used with 18k miles on it at a ford dealer. I fealt that i could have gotten it for 24 plus the honda. So I took that deal to the local toyota dealer and said here is what I'm going to do, can you beat it with a certified pre owned. Sales manager came back and said that he thought they could do something, after they looked at the honda. They drove the honda and came back with a new truck.

Here is the deal I got.

    Sticker = 31,541
    Trade/discounts = 5,541
    = 26000 for truck +TTT = 26,838

I thought it a real good deal myself so I took it.

2011 double cab TRD off road 4x4 silver with mats, tow package, etc.

Additionally, the dealer is going to tint the front windows to match the rest.

Wasn't out to brag, but saw the topic and thought i'd post my story.
