    It's complicated.
Thank you. Appreciate the heads-up! I'll cancel the order for the tweeters.

Everything got delivered yesterday, and I got the Kicker tweeters installed last night...not a huge difference, but the highs are less muddy.

Would you still recommend these tweeters over another, more recent, set?

I can't honestly speak to a newer set for comparison, but my Subaru tweeters are still sounding crisp and clear over 2 years of heavy use so I can't imagine you'd go wrong

I'm not sure there is a "more recent" set for this particular scenario. These are plug-and-play speakers designed for the premium audio system in select Subaru vehicles (similar to JBL for toyota)
They are Kicker KS-line tweeters, and still very much in use (and still sound great, as OP said)

I notice your profile says you have an '08. If you do, just keep in mind that these are not replacements for 1st or 2nd gen. 2016+ only for this set.

I should know better than to post this, but here I go.

I see on page 1 links for Kicker CS models are given for front/rear. Has anyone done the upgrade with Kicker KS or QS models? If so do you have links or model numbers of the coaxial models and adapters? I have a 2017 Sport access cab. I'll be ordering the tweeters separate.

I am by no means an audio guy but life it too short to listen to shitty speakers.

Many have done the KS speakers. Smoother highs for sure. They like power though, so some report a loss in low end. This can be assisted with some sound deadening, and then add an amp when you get a chance.

QS are far too high-end to be mentioned in a budget thread. Amazing speakers though.

Yea, just figured I'd check on the QS. Probably not going with those anyway.

I see you have the complete K-series, do you mind listing the model numbers for the front? Will the rear be different since you're in a double cab and I'm in an access? Do you need anything extra (amps, wires, etc) besides the adapters? Will Metra 82-8146 6" x 9" and Metra 82-8148 6" to 6-3/4" adapters work?

Since I don't know anything about audio I'm just trying to make the process as smooth as possible.

Hey guys. Looking for some advice.

I bought the subaru tweeters but havent installed them yet. I was going to follow this thread and get kicker door speakers but found these:

    https://www.frys.com/product/9489361?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

    https://www.frys.com/product/8773781?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

    https://www.frys.com/product/8773831?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Anyone with experience with these? They look like older sets but have decent reviews.

Now im thinking either going with the components and the 6.5" for the rear or stick with the subaru tweeters and get the 6x9 coaxials in the front with the 6.5" in the rear.

    What do you guys think?

Pulled the plug quickly and made a quantity error. Ordered 1 too many pairs of KS 6x9s. I figured I'd offer them up here first instead of returning since I got a good deal (and the return process for me is a hassle) and I'd like to pass the deal along to TW. $90 shipped for the KS 6x9 pair if anyone is interested DM me.

    Yeah.
I no longer have mine, but my daughter has our old '06 4Runner and I've had a couple of 2nd gens. Here's how I approached the 2nd gens, but overall cost was much higher than the $250 in this thread (from $700 to $900).

    - Component speakers for the front, fashioned a mount for the tweeter from metal strapping to use stock location. Not high-end speakers, but typically low-end speakers aren't available in components. I've used Infinity, Polk, and JBL. Infinity tweeter blew on me, so swapped for the Polk in the '09.
    - Same brand and series coaxials for the rear doors.
    - 2009 Taco: Slim powered sub under driver seat (Pioneer I think?) and a 2-channel amp for front speakers, rear speakers run off head unit
    - 2012 Taco: Custom sub box behind driver side rear seat. 4-channel amp with one side running front, other side bridged to drive sub. HU powered rear speakers
    - Mid-level aftermarket head unit

The 2012 sounded much better due to the better sub, but overall cost was probably a couple of hundred more.

My daughter's 4Runner just has a decent aftermarket head unit and JBL GT6 speakers (components in front, same tweeter mount) all running off of the head unit. It sounds way better than stock, but not as good as my 2012 sounded.

If you shop the Crutchfield outlet or scratch n dent, you can get some good components and save some money. I always look there first and have bought several items, never had an issue. Most stuff is just open box items.

When putting these in your cart, it says you've selected speakers for the same location. Do they not provide the correct adapters? Or did you have to order an adapter separately for the rears?

If I am recalling correctly, the issue you are describing is because both the 6x9s and other smaller set both will technically work up front..so it thinks they are both going in the front doors. When I put in both sets, I had the same problem. There is some sort of menu you need to go though to specify that the 6x9s are for the front and the other set for the back. I would make sure you get that sorted out because you will get the wrong mounting adapter if you don't select the correct locations. If you can't figure it out, hop on support chat with crutchfield and they will walk you through it.

Glad you got it sorted... btw the $25 for their readyharness service is totally worth it - especially if you don't feel comfortable with electrical work. Plug and play from there.
