Don't take this the wrong way but those same engineers also made some questionable decisions with the 3rd gen lol.

Which by the way is my first Tacoma and I love it. But still...

Honest question, have you ever taken an engine apart? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no. I’ll pass on 10,000 mile oil changes. I wouldn’t trust the filter past 5,000 let alone the oil itself. That is MY belief based upon MY history with engines. Why does that bother you?

I would not trust any beliefs of someone who believes a pile of dog shit has consciousness...know what I mean?

But thanks for trying to keep this thread grounded in reality.

"Ever taken an engine apart?.." lol

I doubt the Engineers at Perelli have taken apart a tire. I doubt that the engineers for the LeMan winning Ford GT actually turned a wrench on it but it wins. Are the makers of PVC pipe plumbers?

Turning the wrench on someone elses innovation is easy.

Every fuel up? Seriously ?!

Fuck that! I do it everytime i take it for a drive. My engine will thank me for it 2 million miles later.

There is a member here, I think it is @Woodrow F Call that has sent samples to Blackstone. If I remember correctly, they said he could go longer than 10k miles.

If you think 10k miles is bad for oil change intervals, look at BMW 15k oil changes.

Yeah I touched on that earlier in the thread, also how they shortened it when it was convenient for them.

I have the 6 cyl. I'm going to do the first one at 5K. Then the freebie at 10K. Then 10K after that but more than likely not enough miles so once a year.... I also just bought a 2019 Cadillac XT4. It has a 4 cyl. 2.0 Turbo. I will do my 4 cyl every 5K. It uses the same oil as the Taco 0W-20 synthetic... My 2¢

It's a hell of a lot easier than designing it. Let me know when you design something that sells over a thousand a day. Anything. A simple square wooden block. A paper. Anything. The guys who do it are in a different league man. Logistics, quality control, testing, it is a whole different world.

WTF are you talking about, a different league? Maybe different than you. You truly believe these people are better than you because of their job?

In a world where I can't go a day on the internet without someone barfing up the term "planned obsolescence", I can't believe people are quoting the manual as the holy gospel of best practices on engine maintenance.

I've spent enough time on r/JustRolledIntoTheShop to know that id rather over change than under change my oil. Granted, those people go like 30k on an oil change.

Anyway, didn't Toyota settle an entire class action lawsuit on engine sludge issues? They clearly aren't always right.

I'm not saying 10k is right or wrong. What I am saying is that it is ENTIRELY reasonable to be skeptical.

I change the oil once per year, regardless of mileage. I use the expensive Amsoil stuff (25k oil and Amsoil filter)... been doing this for years with the past 5 cars we've owned and all is good. That being said, we don't put too many miles on our vehicles with our home biz (no commute).
