Agreed! That’s pretty much my mindset.

How is that Bald Mountain run down by Shaver Lake? I heard it’s pretty easy to get to that lookout tower without much of an issue. My truck is pretty stock other than my KOs

If you come in from the north side its easy. No worries in a stock truck.

I havent built it yet. Waiting on the shocks. Likely 3-4 more weeks before they are ready.

More DMZ spring under install photos. Going well. Lots of work done, lots of work to go. Garage LT SUA installs are alot of work.

@downhillbik3r i finally got a good chance to test 4lo for real since getting my truck In April. 265s w/ 2.7 is a real FUCKER without a regear when you have a manual lol. Said nope, not burning my clutch up. Literally anyone with 33s and a 2.7 3rd gen is 100% pavement princess.

Not a pleasant experience and it was nothing hardcore.

Confirms what we’ve discussed previously - regear is so important

285/75/17 is also a good tire size for the 2.7 & 4.88’s. Give you a bit more tallness and just a tad bit wider than standard 285/70/17 or 285/75/16. It’s what I run and I really enjoy the way the truck sits and how it performs.

I’m not doing any lift though with mine. Little trimming for skinny 33s and stock suspension or maybe 5100s set at .85 just to level me front and rear. I just can’t cant justify a lift for 33s when there’s lockers that’ll take me much further and easier.

Offroading it works well. The 4cylinder has never held me back in the dirt. Sometimes you have to drive it waay hard and rev it out, but thats what its for.

So I have to ask after a few days now with my new Ray10s + Toyo 265/75/16... how well do the 4.88s perform with 33s? I’m honestly two seconds away from regearing and just staying at 265/75/16. I could totally feel the difference in weight between my BFG KOs and these Toyo MTs.

Pissed I actually just didn’t grab the 255s as they’re only 2lb heavier. Had I known they’d dog me down even worse, I’d just deal with skinny 33s until my regear instead of wasting the cash on 265

I mean, are you actually trying to get prius gas mileage out of a tacoma? If so, just stay below 2k rpm and enjoy the 20+ mpg's.

Who said anything about gas mileage anywhere? You’re the only one mentioning it lol.

I regularly run 3k rpm on the freeway as it’s where my truck feels happy with stock 3.92s.. below 2k would be downright horrible for my drivetrain

I would not run 33's without the regear. 4.88 and 33's work very well together. 3K RPM on the highway at 75. Most slight grades are doable in 4th. I definitely suggest the 255 version of the 33.

Ya think 4.88s would be overkill with 265s until I go to 33s? Just bought these 265s and rather not sell them right away
