The zinc / cadmium plating tarnished and the bolt rusted, it's rust. And yous seat mechanism is probably loose internally, years of having your weight supported by a tab of 1/8 steel about a 1/4 wide will do that. Things wear out

I was just googling, and saw the thing for a lot cheaper on eBay and stuff. Would not hurt to try, it's just a rubber piece with nothing special.

Anybody ever ridden in anything with ORIs? I saw a dude the other day in a Jeep that was probably a solid 80k or more. He had a shit load of travel but every bump he hit just got soaked up. Couldn’t even tell if the cab moved.

@Blackdawg's Dad had them on his 2nd gen, exchanged them for ADS after the maintenance became annoying if I remember right. Think @BabyTaco had them as well

    Thank you

Yeah my dad had them. They were ultra plush riding. But for whatever reason did not do well in the cold climate. The ambieant tempature would cause them to shift their ride height. After they went flat three times on a trip. My dad had had enough and sold them.

Granted his 2nd gen is a PIG and weights 6k lbs dry with an empty bed. So that likely wasn't helping.

They would be fine for around town and crawling. Had another friend @BradyT88 that had them and was a major go fast nut. He had to go to extremes to get them to valve right for that by totally blocking like half the holes with screws in the piston haha

    I personally wouldn't run them.

Yeah he still has them, bought them from my Dad haha. But Baby Taco has barely been used in like 3 years so thats not saying much haha

What about this. Has anyone ever tried to retrofit a 3rd gen 4Runner linked rear to a Tacoma?

I've seen it done on minitrucks with Land Cruiser coil rears. The 3rd gen runner has sort of a wobbly rear setup, I think it would be unpleasant with any weight on a pickup.

Well what’s the word on Alcan? Ideal setup for me is a spring under. I just don’t want something with crazy down travel. I’m only after maximizing uptravel, no more than 1/2 lift in rear, lowering center of gravity and hopefully completely eliminating axel wrap.

I contacted Deaver and Alcan about a stock mount spring under. Deaver said they don’t have one. Allan said they could make it. But I’d be worried that when it’s all said and done the “custom” leafs wouldn’t live up to it and I’d be stuck with scrap metal.

    Any opinions on that?

I've be toying with doing this.

However, your in Custom territory. You'll have to redo the stock shackle most likely at least to make it worth it. And you'll have to redo the spring mount perches too. It's gonna involve a lot of risk and work to get what you want from that no matter what. But if you're willing to do it Im sure it'll be good.

Never seen it done so you have nowhere to start. Im still thinking of giving it a go.

2nd gens have it so easy when it comes to the rear setups..

Spring mount perches shouldn’t an issue IMO. Here’s a company I can’t remember the name of that made drop kits. They had some perches that just slid right inside the uppers no welding required. Question is if they’ll have any available when I do this. They’ve been disconnected as far as I can tell and only have a few left. And custom length shackles can be done by 4crawler.

The only other option for me is to remove a leaf out of my j59s and add a traction bar. Only issue there is Deaver said it could warp the springs.

Taking a leaf out of a SOA setup will decrease up travel so I wouldn't do that.

Curious about the bracket..seems an odd way to do it.

But either way go for it. Only be a about a 1200 experiment and you'll either A) love it or B) Know how to make it so you love it.

Unless you can find a loose plug connection for the KS wiring harness, you'll be going into the valley to get at the sensors. The KS harness has a tendency to break down.

The heater pipe that runs through the valley is sealed with RTV. Its a good time look into resealing it.

Check your heads for any pitting around the coolant ports that run through lower intake. There are gaskets with silicone seals around the mating surface to compensate for any pitting on the head around the coolant ports.

How many miles to you have on your Taco?

Depending on mileage, it might be a good time to look into getting your injectors serviced while you in there. When servicing the fuel rail and injectors, I replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Its just another rubber wear item starts to break down over time.

The A-pillar handle is different (recessed in the a-pillar), so it'll need a different type of mount (that I'm developing).

how thick of a rubber washer will i need to see if it stops the squeaky wiggle play in this part behind driver seat
somebody told me the rubber bushing attached to bottom of seat frame can get worn but I don't have time right now for downtime to take the whole seat out again and figure out how to remove that and install new energy suspension bushing

Still have them and I honestly didn’t have any real problems with them. I expected them to be a bit of a headache and require me to tinker with them all the time. Once I got a comfortable ride I didn’t have an issue with them for about 2 years. They started to go flat about a year and a half ago and I filled them back up. Still going strong.

My truck is pretty much only used on dirt now. Been hitting back roads almost daily through August and september for hunting and I have no complaints. I never had an issue in winter (drove regularly in sub zero temps). I will be passing these to a buddy of mine and getting new suspension all around for BabyT.

Not sure why they didn’t work for Monte’s dad as I have read reviews from other folks with heavy trucks that use them. Maybe he was hammering them harder than me but even when I was beating the crap out of this truck in Wyoming they performed well :notsure:.

I wouldn’t hesitate to run them again, I just want to try something different.

What about staying spring over but moving your shackle mount above the frame and run longer shackles?
